dpmitable Histadrut worker permanent president of the drut Campaign, Joshua Che-noted this week that through Histadrut drive and its bene-ies, the Amal Trade schools Israel, countless immigrants scores of backward lands be trained to become useful ens and workers in a tech-
nological society.
Abba Eban, Israel's Foreign Minister of Education, said recently that education is the key to Israel's security and to its social cohesion. "Only in our schools, if anywhere at all," he said, "shall we be able to weld our scattered tribes together in loyalty to a system of common values, common memories and conmion dreams."
The augmented educational
programs, through perpetual and single scholarships (perpetual, $2,500 and single, $250), are considered of prime importance today because Israel is experiencing a serious economic crisis. These programs represent a constructive, planned preparation for the next few years when the economic position of the country will be stabilized on a healthy and sound basis, Histadrut officials noted.

SJ. Sisterhood offers gay Wed. luncheon program
At the next luncheon meeting of Schara Tzedeck Sisterhood, to be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 12 noon, Mrs. M. Gelfond, President, will give a report on the Convention of the Women's Union of Orthodox Congregations, held recently in Washington, D.C.
One of the special moments at this Convention was the presence of President Lyndon B. Johnson's wife, "Lady Bird". The Women's Branch established a scholarship at Stern College for Women of Yeshiva University, in Mrs. Johnson's name.
Another highlight for Vancouver, was presentation to Mrs. M. Gelfond of an honorable mention award, to S.T, Sisterhood for their production of "My Fair Sadie". Mrs. (Jelfond will enlarge on these items at the meeting.
In addition to a delightful luncheon, convened by Mesdames J. Sidenberg and M. Batist, the luncheon will enjoy the grade 3 class of the Talmud Torah who will provide another one of their inimitable presentations. This time it will be dances and sonigs in Hebrew from "Fiddler on the Roof". Most of the Community
