Two exploration programs bejgun by Laura Mines
Laura Mines Ltd. will be embarking on two exploration programs at a total cost of $32,500 on its properties in the Merritt and Aspen Grove areas.
Harvey H. Cohen, P.Eng., recommended the programs in reports made to the conipany last fall. By prospectus dated February, 1967, Laura Mines offered 160,000 shares at 40 cents each, to net the treasury $48,-000 for this exploration. . On the 20 MCP copper claims, in the Aspen Grove area^ 24 miles from Merritt, Mr. Cohen proposed an initial geophysical survey, with a magnetometer survey and possible drilling and stripping to follow.
The second program will include two phases of work on the company's eight ROB claims, located six miles southwest of Craigmont Mines Ltd., in the Jesse Creek area. Phase 1 would take in trenching of two anomalous zones already uncovered plus drilling and blasting open cuts and geologic mapping and sampling. The second phase will consist of 2,000 feet of diamond drilling.

STATEMmr FROM THE UNITED JEWISH PEOPLES' QRDEt
The several letters to the editor in the local newspapers re the position of the United Jewish Peoples* Order are based on the mistaken assumption that we are advocating hate. In point of fact, the very opposite is the truth. Our organization spoke out against public expenditure in,connection with the visit of the Deutschland because it is symbolic of German militarism. We pointed out that German militarism was responsible for two world wars during which millions perished. We are concerned with the fact that Neo Naziism is gaining strength in Germany and that old dreams of expansionism and old phrases like "lebensraum" are again being heard in West Germany.
We submit that to be against niilitarism is to be against hate. We are convinced that to be against war is to be on the side of humanity. We feel that to be alert to the growing danger of revived Naziism is to be on the side of people everywhere. This is why our statement to Mayor Campbell concluded with the sentence that "German militarism should not be encouraged either by word or deed."
In this connection, we find ourselves in agreement with Rabbi Gunther Plaut who, writing in the Congress Bulletin, published by Canadian Jewish Congress (March-April 1967) says, . . unfortunately, there are still many forces within that country (Germany) which still nurse the frustrations and aspirations of years gone by. Not only are there live Nazis in Germany, but there exists a good deal of that mystical potential which after 1928 brought the extremists to the fiare-ground." The Rabbi goes on to say that we "must let Germans know of our deep concern. What the world thinks will be of influence in Germany. Forty years ago the world did nothing and was not concerned. This at least can be different."
It is astonishing that the Pacific Division of Canadian Jewish Congress should think and act otherwise. It is our contention that to be for brotherhood and understanding between peoples of the world, it is necessary to be for peace and against militarism and Naziism.
