A "Welcome Committee" for newcomers to the Jewish community of Vancouver is being inaugurated by the Jewish Community Fund and Council. The purpose of this project will be to offer information and assistance to those who are newly arrived in Vancouver, and are interested in becoming part of the Jewish Community.
In charge of the committee will be Mrs. Leon Glassman, a member of the Jewish Community Fund and Council executive, and an active worker in the Talmud Torah P.T.A.
A feature of the program will be the offer of a three month complimentary family membership in the Jewish Community Centre. An effort will be made by the committee, upon request, to facilitate the integration of new families into the Jewish communal life of Vancouver.
Information as to the arrival of newcomers in Vancouver should be passed along to the Centre or to Mrs. Glassman at 7049 Churchill, 263-3416.

ALBERT MELUL
Albert Melul, program director at the Centre, is leaving to take up the position of junior house supervisor with Gordon House in Vancouver's West End. He will be primarily concerned with supervision of youth programming.
A native of Tangiers, Morocco, where he was a professional worker with the French Boy Scout movement, Mr. Melul emigrated to Canada in 1957. He lived first in Toronto where he was responsible for direction and choreography of Nirkoda Israeli Dancers, that city's top dance group. He worked on staff of the YMHA as pre-teen and special adult projects worker. While with the "1 he completed his group work training through the school of social work. University of Toronto. Since coming to Vancouver,
he has received his diploma as recreation director through University of Western Ontario.
In his five years at the Centre, Mr. Melul has been responsible for initiating many new and varied programs wih groups ranging from tweens through Golden Age. Under his guidance and direction, Vancouver Golden Age Club has become the top group of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. Golden Age programming this summer has included a picnic with the Seattle group at Deception Pass, a boat trip to Granite Falls up Burrard Inlet and a picnic planned Aug. 21 at Horseshoe Bay.
The most outstanding phase of Mr. Melul's work has been his devotion to Vancouver Jewish youth. One of his first activities here was to work with the Israeli folk dance groups and to encourage professional artists to aid youth. With teenagers who frequent the Centre, Mr. Melul was always ready to discuss any problems or projects. While working at the Centre, he has helped many people obtain employment, and has encouraged many students to continue with their education. He
has also played a key role in furthering the development of Centre Day Camp and Young Adult program at the Centre.
Prior to Mr. Melul's departure, another Centre staff member, Paul Brownstein, left to take up the position of athletic director at Toronto YMHA. Mr. Brownstein received his degree in physical education at U.B.C. and the" proceeded to work at the Centr for the past two years. E.N
