is varied between speakers, musicals and films. Some of the previous year's programs emphasized an understanding of causes of social isolation and the generation gap. This year the club plans to make a strong attempt to increase an awareness by the older adult of his responsibility in the community: to understanding youth, problems of housing and his own role in political action.
In an effort to expand, the Golden Age Club is presently embarking on new programs. An employment an^l volunteer service bureau, under direction of Mrs. Henrietta Quastel, has been initiated. Its purpose is to reintegrate the retired adult into the community, socially, economically, and politically.
Any employer who has a vacancy which is not too strenu-ousj or on a part-time basis, or any organization within the com-mimity which is seeking a similar type c<f volunteer is being urged to phone Mrs. Gloria Levi at the Jewish Conmiunity Centre, 266-9111. Retired adults who might be interested in either suitable (employment or volunteer work are also asked to contact he club and avail themselves of this service.
Another new feature will be a rips and tours branch, designed o visit places of interest approximately once a month. First trip was to the new Planetarium, Sept. 2, and other trips, such as visits o Pacific Press Newspaper build-mg, a brewery, City Council, Provincial Legislature in Victoria, and to Seattle, are all being planned. Because of the group's enthusiasm and interest, possibilities of a trii) to Israel in the spring are now being investigated. Anyone interested in joining the trips-and tours branch of Golden Age Club may inquire, at the Centre office. > ^ • Preliminary arrangements have also been made with the extension department of U.B.C. to co-sponsor a series of lectures of interest to the older adult. This program will commence in January.
