HOME REELECTS GELMON TO FIFTH TERM AS PRESIDENT
In a tribute to his dedicated leadership in the building of the new Louis Brier Home and Hos pital, William J. Gelmon was elected to his fifth straight term as president of the Jewish Home

As a further show of appreciation and confidence in those who spearheaded the new premises, all officers were also re-elected: Gorge Biely, Dr. C. Chechik and Sam Shine as vice-presidents, Myer Goldberg, treasurer; Edward BfiUer, financial secretary; Gary Gutman, honorary secretary. Also re-appointed were Dr. M. Fox, chairman of the Medical Committee, D; A. Chertkow, legal advisor, and G. Gutman, auditor. Sam Bass is the immediate past president.
In his Presidential report, Mr. Gelmon stated that since opening the new premises^ within the relatively short space of some four months, the building is humming with activity. 'The progress, much more rapid than believed

Starting with a Home for the Aged and an Extended Care Hospital, provision is being completed within the building for Intermediate Care, to give care and attention to those residents in deteriorating health who do not yet qualify for hospital admission. He noted this is a giant step forward in the health field in the Jewish Community here.
In extending appreciation to the sister organization, the Ladies Auxiliary, Mr. Gelmon praised the ladies for their tireless efforts on behalf of the Home and residents, noting that, **We also have those who are constantly helping those who find it difficult to help themselves."
In paying; tribute to aU those w^hohadigiv^n so.much their time and ei^gy to see the new project to ^niition, Mr. Gelmon gave special thanks to Rabbi M. Hier and Rabbi W. Solomon for their interest and direction on traditional religious matters pertaining to the complete operation and for their visits to Resi^ dents and patients.
In conclusion, the President, in thanking the staff said, "Give them a whole year and this whole commimity will look upon Louis
Brier Home , and Hospital as a shining example of what good *total care* should be.**
Otiier reports were presented by: Mi's. I. Weinstein, president of Ladies Auxiliary, who expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve; B. Victor, for the religious committee, who advised of improved activity in the beautiful new shul; Dr. M. Fox vrho was pleased with his medical committee and the excellent co-operation of director of nursing, Mrs. L. McLean; S. Shine, who.noted the load on the house committee had not increased with the larger Home; Dr. C. Chechik, who advised membership had increased; George Biely, building committee chairman, who concisely summed up two years of effort, "the building is ::inished and speaks for itself.'*
Sam Bass advised that the admissions committee maintains the same policy as always. "That the lome was built for those who need its facilities, and not necessarily for those who can pay.**
Treasurer, Myer Goldberg read the financial statement, which presented a reasonable financial jicture.
A highlight of the meeting was creation of a life governorship br George Biely in recognition of his tremendous contribution of direction, time, and devotion to construction of the new building. Board members elected were: . Berger, M. Dodek, M Goldman, A. Jackson, N. Kliman, N. Loom-er, S. Rabinovitch, J. Raphael, L. Silverman, I. Tischler. Chairman of the nominating committee was . S. Finkelman.

A "happening** took place in Victoria April 26 when Habonim Youth hosted a Tel Aviv Coffee House social in honor of the 21st Israel Independence Day. The youth had decorated the hall and they presented a program of singing, dancing, and instrumental music. Havdalah was led by Micha Peled, Israeli Independence proclamation was read by Denise Barer, with Hatikvah played on the violin by Daniel Barer. Theme from Exodus was rendered by Ron Waldman, piano, and Daniel Barer, violin. The girls performed three dances and guitar renditions were supplied by Shalom Luxemburg, Ron Waldman and Les Horlick.
Following the program, beautifully decorated box lunches were auctioned by Mart Levitt with Helen Alexander bidding highest for many of them and giving them to the youth. The "fun** evening closed with Israeli dances and singing with everyone taking part. Mrs. L. PackEdrd, oh behsdf of parents and the youth, warmly thanked Micha Peled for his extraordinary leadership and devotion to the Victoria youth, and to all who came from Vancouver to help make the evening such a success. Proceeds from the most successful affair go to scholarships for Camp Miriani.
Adult discussion group, imder eadership of Shalom Kalfon, met April 27 at the home of Ralph and Aileen Barer.
