neighbors continue to believe that hatred and terrorism are the mission of their generation, and the long chapter of Israel's military victories has not yet shaken their leaders' mistaken conviction that they will attain their goals by means of attacks from ambush and onslaughts upon peaceful citizens.
Yet all these acts of destruction
Yet neither attacks launched from near, nor plans designed by friends at a distance can intimidate us. We will continue to defend ourselves, never ceasing to wield our working tools. Nor should we weaken in our faith that a time of cooperation and fruitful mutual tmderstanding will yet come to our region. Many and difficult are the tests

sons facing enemy forces along the length of our borders, in the north and in the Golan hills, by the Jordan and the Red Sea and near the Canal, in every comer where danger lurks. Let the sheltering and protective hand be blessed.
ON THIS FESTIVE DAT OF OURS which is a festival for the entire Jewish people, fraternal blessings, rich in faith and encouragement, go forth to the scattered children of oiu^ people throughout the world, whose hopes are our hopes, as our concern is their concern. May they be as firmly united as the nation in the homeland, may they stand with us, close and vigilant, guarding our joint future.
Our warmest wishes must be expressed today, too, to the newcomers who have been reaching Israel from many lands, some of them newly become sources of Aliya. May their pangs of adjustment be borne with patience and success. May they, having come in the midst of storms, be happily absorbed among us and swiftly meet with tranquil days.
AND THIS INDEPENDENCE DAY OF ISRAEL, a holiday dear to all groups and ages, communities and localities of Israel's citizens, will, we trust, bring the hearts of men and peoples closer to each other and the land itself nearer to times of serenity and security, brotherhood and fruitful labor, freedom and peace.
May the Savior of Israel protest His People and watch over His inheritance.

Nasser's name about freedom of navigation in the Suez Canal for everyone. Was this new? Had not the Egyptians promised it a dozen times? Since Nasserism suffered from schrizophrenia they could always talk about free shipping for "all" but when it came to the point they would add —"all states whose existence we recognize, and Israel's is not one of them."
