Bridge — An intermediate and advanced 10 week course will be offered by the Centre commencing Thursday, March 4, 7:30 - 10:30 p.m. The course, encompassing rubber and duplicate, will focus on teaching one how to bid and play correctly, in addition to enjoying the game better. BBYO—Aviva- BBG will hold a co-ed sleepover this Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Centre. Theme is "Valentine's Revived" and all Jewish youth in the community are being invited. The event will begin with a Havdalah service at 8 p.m. in the Centre auditorium followed by a dance. Music will be provided by the Churchill Stage Band. Tamar and Drora BBG will hold a Fashion Show and Boutique next Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2:30 p.m. in the Centre auditorium. The show is open to the entire community and members of both chapters as well as members from U.S.Y., N.C.S.Y. and A.Z.A. will model.
An inter-faith program between BBYO and the Shaughnessy United Church Youth group is being planned. Activities will include an exchange on the weekend of Feb. 26 during which members of the Shaughnessy group will attend synagogue services and BBYO members will attend church services.
Organizers include Rose-Ellen Shecter, Cindy Gechman and Faye
Micner.
BBYO members will be coat checking at the annual Lions Gate lodge Brotherhood Night dinner on Feb. 23 with proceeds going towards city BBYO Council activities.
= Brownies held a very successful party on Feb. 14. Brown Owl, Mrs. Shirley Menkis, organized the party and invited girls of the Sunday junior program to attend. Brownies plans include observing Lord Baden-Powell's birthday on Feb. 22nd and Cookie Day.

With four games remaining in the men's basketball house league "Black Hawks" led by Murray Shapiro, are in : front by two games. "Bruins" .are in second place while "Rangers" and "Canadians" are deadlocked in a third place tie, one game behind "Bruins".
In teen league the standings are very close. "Celtics" are in first place followed by "Lakers" one game behind. Third place "Kn-icks" are only two games behind leaders while last place "Sonics" are only three games back. ,
The JCC Health Club has started a 500 Mile Club. All Health Club members post their miles and become a charter member of the Club if they run 500 miles in a year. Bob Rae has jumped into the lead by running 25 miles in the first week. Dr. Lloyd Mail-in has 24 miles to his credit and in third place is Ruben Brau-nstein with 21 miles.
The ladies doubles badminton tournament was won by Josephine Blum and Hazel Stevens.
The JCC school of sports program will offer indoor tennis lessons for all juniors 8,9,and 10 year olds and all tweens 11, 12 and 13 year olds. The program will consist ofthree classes every Wednesday and will be taught by professional Luba Chobot. T|ie program consists of six lessons commencing Wednesday, Feb. 24 and concluding March 31; outdoor sessions will then begin on the new Centre outdoor tennis court. Racquets and balls will be provided.
Registrations must be in by Feb. 22 at the Centre office. Further information is available at 266-9111.
SX YOUTH TO HOLD VICromASHABBATON
National Council of Synagogue Youth, the youth arm of Congregation Schara Tzedeck, has announced plans for a Centennial Shabbaton to be held in Victoria on March 5 and 6. In announcing plans for the weekend, Steven Nemety, president of NCSY said "As we celebrate B.C.'s Centennial, we are also reminded that Temple Emanuel in Victoria was a thriving and pioneering Synagogue 100 years ago. NCSY would^like to recapture that spirit in the atmosphere of a true Shabbat experience".
More than 75 teenagers are expected to attend , travelling by charter bus and ferry. Shabbat services will be conducted by the teenagers and will be open to members of the Victoria Jewish community . Sessions and seminars will be given by Rabbi Marvin Hier and Pinches Bak. The group will be housed at the Dominion hotel, compliments of the Victoria Jewish community.

To tell the truth, I had no desire to leave my home in Jerusalem on Independence Day to go to Galilee — but suddenly I remembered something, and said: Of course, yes, I will go...
The fifth of lyar, 5709. One year of Israeli independence. The Israeli nation celebrates for the first time the holiday of freedom and liberty. From the central region of the land messengers go out in order to bring the good news of freedom to the Israeli inhabitants in the Galilee and in the Negev. 1 am among the messengers carrying the good news. It fell upon me to go to the settlements in the Northern Galilee.
I WENT OUT to the road and stood there for a long time, but not one ear came by. Suddenly an army jeep flnnronch-ed. I stopped it and asked the officer if he would take me with him. The officer thought for a moment and said: "Here on the mountains there are several fortified places. In each
fortified area there are 5-8 boys. For three days already they haven't gone out of the fortifications. Come with me, go from fortification to fortification and say something to the boys. Begin in these mountains with a small group. Wlio knows? One day a city may arise on these fortified heights Then you may speak again in an amphitheater. ... I awoke from my reminiscing as the friend asked: There is a large assembly hall there, but we need a place for thousands of people. Maybe we should hold the meeting in the open air in the amphithea-
