MOUNTAIN VIE1V CEMETERY JEWISH SECTION
Negotiations are now underway to request the City of Vancouver and the Public Utilities Commission to permit the renoyation of the Jewish Section in the Mountain View Cemetery.
The purpose of the renovation is to improve the overall appeorance of the area by creating d lawn section broken with a minimum of upright monuments, at the same time improving the quality of mointenance.
Subject to the approval of the Public Utilities Commission and City Council, the proposal is to hove the City undertake the following work:
1. All monuments adaptable to being laid flush with the ground will be so modified as flat memorials.
2. All pothwoys will be filled in and the whole section regraded ond reseeded.
3. All curbing will be either covered or removed. Any names in section of curbing which serve as the only means of identification will be salvaged as a flat memorial or duplicated with a new cement flat memorial of the same size.
4. Monuments which ore to be left upright but requiring a resetting of foundation will receive necessary resetting as port of renovation.
5. All cement slobs will be removed and the plot regraded and reseeded.
There will be no charge to the owners of plots to cover the costs of this renovotion.
Careful precautions will be undertaken to ensure that all existing morkers, monuments or mempriols temporarily removed from plots during the renovation will be restored to their original location in the renovation oreo. There will be no interference with the remains of any deceased person buried in the area which is to be renovoted.
Any owner of o grave space in the oreo or any next-of-kin of a deceased person buried in this section wishing informotion concerning this project should contact the Schara Tzedeck Cemetery Board, c/o 307, 1286 W. 14th Ave., Vancouver 9, B.C., on or before April 29th, 1971.
Any interested porty having objections to the project must make their objections known in writing to this Board or the Medical Health Officer, City of Vancouver, 453 W. 12th Ave., Vancouver 10, B.C., or the Public Utilities Commission, P.O. Box 1204, Victoria, B.C., on or before April 29th, 1971.
SCHARA TZEDECK CEMETERY BOARD
Charles Hoffman, a resident of Vancouver for 25 years, passed away in Richmond on March 28. He was 71 years of age. Born and educated in Ronjania, Mr. Hoffman resided in Winnipeg from 1923-1946.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; son, Gordon; daughters, Mrs. F. Goldman, Mrs. M. Lipchen of Winnipeg; a brother, A, Hoffman of San Francisco; a sister, Mrs. S. Ludwig; 10grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 30 at Schara Tredeck

Mrs. Alex Coodin, 57 succumbs in Winnipeg
Mrs. Alex Coodin, a resident of Winnipeg since her arrival ir Canada 45 years ago, passed awa> in the Winnipeg General hospital on March 18. She was 56 yea]*s old.
The former Sylvia Katz was borr in Russia and educated in Winnipeg. She was active in the Winnipeg Peretz School.
She is survived by her husband, Alex; sons, Saul and Phillip Kat^; a sister, Mrs. Lily Graham, of Vancouver; one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held in Winnipeg March 19 at ChesQd Chalemin chapel with Rabbi Weitzman and Cantor Porodiski officiating. Interment followed at B'nai Avraam cemetery.

Day Camp Counsellors — The
Centre Summer Day Camp is presently accepting staff applications for junior and senior counsellor positions. This year the Centre is offering two day camps running from June 28 to August 20: Summer Adventure (full day camp) for 5 1/2 to 10 year olds, and Summer Fun (half days) 4 — 5 1/2 year olds. Junior counsellors must be at least 15 years old. More Information is available from camp director, Gerry Zipursky at 266-9111.

Golden Age Club — The Golden Age club will meet on Monday, April 19 at 1 p.m. Professor and Mrs. A. Soudack will.show and discuss slides taken during their year of residence in Israel.
Regular activities of the club will resume, with chorus and play practice and written English at 11 a.m.; and calisthenics, carpet bowling, reading and discussion circle and spoken English starting at 1 p.m. Arts and crafts class will convene on Thursday, April 22 at 10 a.m., with the group starting to prepare name tags and centrepieces in readiness for the coming Tri-City Convention.
Also upcoming is a trip on Tuesday, April 27, 1 — 5 p.m., to visit Lynn Valley and Cleveland Dam, with tea being taken to follow. Cost of the bus will be 750 per member with reservations being talen by Mrs. L. Field.
The April 5 meeting of the club celebrated birthdays of members occurring during April, Mrs. Claire Klein Osipov entertained in their honor.

B.B.Y.O. — will hold its annual Beau and Sweetheart Ball tomorrow, Saturday, April 17, 9 p.m., at the Centre auditorium. Theme is "all things must pass." BBYO City Council has extended an invitation to all youth and adults to attend.
Highlight of the evening will be selection of 1971 BBYO Beau and Sweetheart who will receive their titles from this year's Swieetheai*t, Susan Backun, and Beaus, Wayne Greenberg and Peter Dodek. Nominees for 1971 Beau include Richard Crane, Chuck Engel,, Bruce Gordon and Gerry Zimmerman. Sweetheart candidates are Judy Chertkow, Cindy Gechman, Faye Micner and Margot Sinclair.
In addition, advisors to BBG and AZA chapters will be honored at a special midnight buffet, chaired by Susan Backun.
This year's Beau Ball chairmen are Cindy Gechman and Randy Cohen. Committee heads include Richard Crane, transportation; Morrie Backun, photographs; Sandi Smith and Anita Leonoff, decorations.
