Dear Mr. Kaplan:
Every time I do a little shopping in my area, I'm constantly plagued by "Jesus freaks," religious fanatics and "ecstatics,"callthem what yoii will (Anti-Semites as well). They coUar-me and go into long, viscious harangues about "coming to the next meeting".
I think people o/all faiths should be allowed to worship as they wish, not as others will them to worship; .
At first, I merely ignored them when they whispered. "Jesus saves" and passed by; Howeves,-one of them who read my com^ plaint in, a letter in the Sun newspaper, approached me in a store full of people and said, "Hey, lady, did you print me in the paper?" He repeated it about six times, until everyone gasped and turned to him in dismay. He was cashing in on his ^'glory'S at my expense.
I received an apology from the fire-andrbrimstone clergyman of one of these outfits. Thkt was to be all, or so I thought.
However, every day I went Outside, I continued to be accosted by the se over=zealous "street preachers." This is a dangerous trend. Religious nuts istart wars leading eventually to complete chaos for the Jewish pe(^le.
I walked into a store recently where a woman turned to me and said, "I'm a senior citizen," her face full of hate. I explained that I respected all senior citizens. Then she digressed.
"I spread the word of Jesus and the *holy trjnity' whenever I can, especially to the Jews. They never accepted Christ, the father, son, and the holy ghost, "she told me.:
1 explained that I was Jewish. "You'll never be saved, she spat at me. "The Jews everywhere will never be saved, she went on. "But we've had a number of Jews who saw the light and came over to our side."
I didn't bother to tell her that many non-Jews have converted to Judaism, and that Jesus was Jewish, as well as his disciples.
