For the New Year 5732, Congregation Beth Israel is dedicating a new Bimah and Aron Hakodesh -the marble ark housing the Torah scrolls.
The new Bimah, designed by architect, Richard Henriquez, provides aii ^'in the round'' effect and tHe opportunity for closer contact between the spiritual leaders and the congregation. The unique design ofthe Aron Hakodesh manifests the importance of where the Torahs reside. Noteworthy also, is the Menorah, Ten Commandments and Ner Tamid executed by sculptor Victor Ries.
The Sanctuary and Memorial hall are decorated in a new color scheme together with new carpeting and improved lighting.
A 'Minyan' of families gave their financial support to bring this new project, to realization. Through it, each of these ten families is honoring one of their members, as a concerned Jew in the community and one to whose life the synagogue has had significant meaning.
The contributing families are; Mr. and; Mrs. Morris Betkin, to honor the memory of Henry W., Belkin; Mrs. S.W. Chess and family, to honor the memory of Sam W. Chess; Mrs. A. The Aron Hakodesh, a marble ark housing the Torah scrolls, towers the full height of the sanctuary. On its bi-fold doors, Torah script letters, individually handi-crafted ih bronze, spell out the fisrt two words of each of the Ten Comnr.andments. The staggered words, on brass mountings 10 feet high, symbolize the leaves and branches of the Etz Chaim, or the Tree of Life, another des-

of the "Honored Minyan" are being invited to attend and rejoice in this milestone.
The Bimah beautification committee, which saw the labor of love through to its conclusion, consisted of Dr. David Zack
and lived in Israel. No two of his designs are alike, although there is the common base of excellent usC' of metals in exquisitely executed Hebrew calligraphy and contemporary crafting of trad-titional symbols.
The Bimah itself has been lowered and re-positioned with pews surrounding it on three sides. All worshippers are now closer to the Bimah and to those officiating at religious services. An open mezzanine balcony also allows greater rapport between choir and congregation.
The semi-circular background of the Bimah is of walnut panelling and ribbing. The art work, including a modernistic Eternal Light, Menorah and lecterns, as well as planters with live tropical greens, combine with gold carpeting and leather furnishings to create a greater feeling of warmth, brightness and life-like qualities for an environment of worship and study.
