12~-THE BULLETIN—Friday, May 5, 1972
(TSVISHN UNZ ALEIN) By LAZAR
Hear and there — Unqualified success, -far, far surpassing last year's inital UJA Telethon, is the report of Women's Division workers following last Sunday and Monday evenings' city-wide telethon drive. . .Next of the annual meetings is that of JCF&C this Thursday^ May 11, 8:30 p.m. at the Centre. . . Testimonial banquet at Vancouver Peretz school May 14 will honor 50 years of
wedlock for Fannie and Hymie Berson. . . Itabbi Elchonon Ober-stein, co-prdinator of T.T. afternoon high school notes that in addition to regular courses already offered, multi-level Ulpan Hebrew is a new feature planned next fall. . . Mazal tov also to Cantor and Mrs. Murray Nixon honored by B.I. last weekend on their 25th. It was only a few days after the Cantor returned from the annual Cantor's Assembly at Grossinger's. . . Three great gals to be honored by Hadassah June 7 at a special Founder's Lunch: Lit Shapiro, Hilda Lourie and
Jessie Allinan.

On W.D. — U.J.A. circuit: Poignant, thought-bending moment at the Women's UJA Luncheon found a r^^cent widow annouce increase of her own pledge by what her late husband would have
pledged. She suggested that all widows whose economic status had not been lowered by the death of their husbands, follow her example. . . Beautiful ring donated by Grassie-Firbanks was won by lucky lady Mrs. S.Greenberg while Mrs. F. Silber walked off with the
Miller it Co. door prize.

Appointment of the president of Vancouver Stock Exchange, Mr. Thomas Dohm to Justice Branca's Camp Miriam finance committee, prompted one wag to suggest that the next thing Camp Miriam was planning was to go "Public". . . Comment got a quick denial (and smile) from Miriam spokesman, Vancouver lawyer Bernard Simpson.

Shelley Rivkin has been chosen as summer assistant for Jewish Opportunity Bureau under a grant from Royal Bank of Canada. A third-year SFU student, Shelley will be remembered by many as a three-time JCC Day Camp counselor,, member of Habonim and BBG. .. She'll help J.O.B.S. for the next four months in more active canvassing for employment and related duties. So employers, be prepared to hear from her (in case you haven't called J.O.B.S. already.')-
In Washington this past week for special top level mejeting called by world chairman of Israel Bonds, Samuel Rothberg (and held at the home of Ambassador Yitzhak Rabin) was Morris J. Wosk. Deputy P.M. Yigal Allon was a speaker. . . Then Morrie went on to Montreal for a Bond board of directors meeting and to attend (as headtable guest) the Israel Bond Man of the Year dinner in Montreal honoring Morley M. Cohen, one of the fabulous "Cohen Clan" and of course brother to
our own Joseph.

Kinderlach—What a great day it'll be when scapiegoatsr won't have to be created to cover frustrations and inadequacies. . .What a great day when The Bulletin won't be expected to be a daily paper with reporters (plural) and photographers (plural) rushing ar round to cover every event in the community. . .And what a great day - when people start treating The Bulletin with a little of the respect, politeness and consideration that they do the dailies.;. .
The dailies are not taken for granted. They are invited to or advised weU in advance about events people wish covered. . . When people feel they'd like the press to aid the image of their group and bring its story to the public, they don't substitute E.S.P. for communication.
OASSIHEDS
It's quite impossible to cbyer a meeting: when you don't know it's "taking place. . .And it's quite impossible for one small Weekly to cover persohally every event... It's also a fact that the majority of reporters on our dailies use only the telephone to do most of the stories you read and send a photographer out to very, very few
events. -.

Too bad public service has to be so thankless. ..
There is little doubt when Norman Orebk's term as Centre president expired last week he was probably more than a little relieved to be finished with such a pressing job.
The Centre torch goes into the hahds of a very nice guy, Dr. Sam Rothstein.Lazair wishes him good luck and hopes he'll find the job more thankful. With communication and respect for others, how can he miss?
U.J.A. Telethoners at B.C. Tel building last Sunday and Monday nights could never have achieved so much had it not been for the . sustenance they received from B.B.Y.O. Centennial chapter's girls who volunteered and supplied dinners for the U.J. A. "operators."
Because he's been doing it i years, bringing a little pleasui to veterans of Shaughnessyhospit is not niews ^heri Jack Caplij is doing the entertaining; But Whc "Mr.^usic" performed there las Sunday, many of his own *'com| rades". were in the audience. Jacl who happens to be going on had been a patient there himsel
only a short while before.
