Hear and there - Prestigious Committee of Jewish and non-Jewish VIP's is being formed across Canada for the coming 2,5th anniversary year celebrations of the State of Israel. Localities will be published when committee is revealed in national releases. . . First time (probably in history of all Vancouver highschools) that local youngsters graduated wearing kipot as they went on stage, took place last week at Eric Hamber. Seven boys out of 300 wore their kipot (yarmulkes!) as they did all through year. . .Another first was that 16 Jewish youngsters ate special kosher dinners arranged through Max's Delicatessen. This comprised roughly one-third of the Jewish teens that graduated at Eric Hamber. The other two-thirds ate the regular banquet dinner that was offered. . .Now off the press and just arrived at most bookstores is "I Amness" co-authored by psychiatrist Dr. Ian Kent and Prof. WilUam NichoUs, head of UBC department of religious studies. Chapter seven is on Israel. . . Youthful delegation left last week to attend first annual Ideological Conference of the Canadian Zionist Federation in Montreal. Top scholars and personalities and outstanding workshop -sessions will be attended by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Karby, Lorne Balshine and Nat Bent.

Also departing this week were two families enroute to Israel. . .

Son, Ben, 19, is already living in Israel and is in the Israel Army. . .Issy andBrenda Karmel will be living at Apt. 9, Rechov Dizengoff 37; Natanya, and want anyone coming to Israel to know they will be happy to Welcome them and offer what information they can about Israel.

took first class honors as she graduated last week at UBC with a bachelor of education, two youngsters were mighty proud of their grandmother - Lisa Green,? and Adam Green, 6.
It's sad past history, but when Evergreen B.B. went ahead with plans to sponsor the two ill-fated benefit shows starring Shecky Greene, it was on the strength of the Cave's word that there was a signed contract with the comedian. It liow seems that such a contract existing might be a bit doubtful and Evergreen boys are doubly upset to have inconvenienced the
communiiy m any way.

0 strong effort to to the Borust fold"
MONTREAL —"As there is a visible decline in interest . of Jewish students in the New Left and most of them are now looking for new ideas, it is the duty of Zionists to inspire them with the dedication for Israel."
That is the philosophy of Dr. Leon Kronitz, the educator and writer and newly appointed executive vice-president of Canadian
Zionist Federation— the highest position in Canadian Zionism.
"We have to make a strong effort to bring back youth to the Zionist fold," Dr. Kronitz said in an interview.
To this end, the Zionist leader envisages an educational framework unprecedented in North America: a college for Jewish studies under Zionist auspices where students can learn batch-elor's and master's degrees— but must spend six to 12 months in Israel to perfect their knowledge of that country.
Dr. Kronitz. who was born in Poland 54 years ago, said that with few Jewish boys and girls interested in Zionism, he wants to direct his efforts toward addressing selective Zionist literature to those apathetic or alien to the problems facing the Jewish-conscious. He also pointed to the important role Zionists should play in raising funds for Israel.
(USSIFIEDS
His main thrust, Dr. Kronitz said, will be to inspire aliya by Canadian Jews of all ages, primarily through education from el-, ementary school through university, becaiise "there is no Jewish identity without Zionism."
He added: "Israel has topull them in because American diaspora is not pushing them out."
Dr Kronitz is also principal of the Solomon Schechter Academy here, chairman of the national executive of Canadian Jewish Congress, and a member of the Action Committee of the World Council of the World Zionist Organization. .
As CZF executive-director, ;h will also^ serve as national dir ector of its new education depar ment.
The holder of a doctorate education from the Jewish The logical Seminary of AniericavD Kronitz has lived in Canada sine 1938.

(Continued from Page 1) Nixon was in the Soviet Union, Jewish sources said.
According to the report, Alek-sander Slepak went to the KGB (secret police) to ask permission for a demonstration, but Col. Yaroslav Karpov, head of the Jewfsh section, turned him down.
When Slepak asked for a written rejection, Karpov reportedly told him: "We are no bureaucrats." Slepak reportedly replied that he therefore considered that he had the right to demonstrate.
Karpov warned him he could be arrested and sentenced to three years' imprisonment for "anti-Soviet activity."
Slepak left and called another Jew from a public telephone, after which he was arrested, the sources said.

Tsypih, they reported, was arrested at home while calling the same third J«w, who was not identified. Aleksander Slepak and Tsypin, both 21, were earlier called up for active Army service but were rejected for health reasons.
Earlier Tsypin, a Moscow Jew, had gone into hiding three weeks ago to avoid draft callup and was subsequently arrested and then waived for nearsightedness.
It was also learned that when Tsypin was detained the first time and asked to sign a disavowal of activism, the same Jewish secret policeman Yaroslav Karpov told him: "You do want to get out of this KGB office, don't you?" Tsypin did not sign, but was released at that time.
Meanwhile in London it was reported that Russian Jewish political prisoner Raiza Palatnik suffered a heart attack last week while in solitary conHnement at her forced-labor camp. She 'wa& rushed to a civilian hospital at Dniepropetrovsk, Jewish sources said.
They said Russian Jews were expressing anviety over the condition of the 36-year-old librarian, who was sentenced June 24, 1971 to two years' imprisonment for . "distributing anti-Soviet propaganda."
She is due for release next Dec. 1, the second anniversary of hur arrest.
