(TSVISHN UNZ ALEIN) By LAZAB
Hear and there - Welcome to the Sephardic Congregation which
was officially founded and incorporated here last month to establish worship and promote the precepts of Orthodox Sephardic Judaism . . . Canada Post Office calendar for 1973 has one Jewish holiday clearly illustrated and marked down: Rosh Hashona. . . Response to announcement of forthcoming UJA Clinic Feb. 25 has been excellent. A must for all UJA workers, registration is still being taken at 266-5366. . . Will Becker was elected 1973 president of B.C. Tennis Patrons association and wife, Janice, its secretary. . .Cosmopolitan feeling at Camp Massada this summer will come from campers from such cities as Paris, France and counsellors from Jerusalem, New York and Montreal. . .BBW Centennial gals once again staff the monthly Vancouver Jewish community blood donor night at Red Cross House, Oak and 32nd, this Monday, Feb. 19, 7 to 9 p.m. . . Jerry Cohen and Jack Shapiro highlight Ergetz Vu on Sunday, Feb. 25. . .Oneg before Shabbat a la the Schulweis suggestion made when he spoke here recently was tried out at Beth Israel last Friday eve. All new congregational members and a large Erev Shabbat turnout of close to 300 sang and danped in the auditorium prior to regular worship and then almost danced into the sanctuary in harmonious togetherness for services. . .It's Brotherhood Week
Feb. 18 - 25, Kinderlach. . .In-and-out this week:Shimon Peres, dynamic Israeli Cabinet Minister (see page 5).
Flash! First breakthrough on a very important project, vital to the future of the Jewish community. . .UBC Senate has passed in principle the inclusion of four new courses on Judaism. . .But there are still two "ifs".. .Firstly, it still has to be ratified by the UBC Board of Governors, which is expected to tackle it pretty soon. . .And secondly, then it'll be up to the Jewish community to provide the funds for the new
Judaic courses.

A relaxed and happy Negev Dinner with the undeniable down-to-earth touch that only Lou Le-Fohn can give to proceedings, caused one guest to remark that it made her want to return next
year for another such JNF fete.

When Joe Segal S.T. president, won the Junior NCSY raffle of a $100 Israel Bond, he donated the money back to Junior NCSY activities and scholarship fund. . . Draw was made last Sunday at conclusion of Junior NCSY Shabbaton weekend which drew over 100 youngsters from grades 5 to 7, boys and girls who had a memorable, inspirational and fun-filled busy weekend with kids from Portland and Seattle. . .Senior NCSY joined for Shabbat luncheon which brought together 250 young people in such outstanding
ruach that the walls of S.T. almost came tumbling down. . .Kids will remember all their lives being part of such experiences.

Bep^ that got a double-take came recently to the Centre Nursery Sehooi in response to an enquiry to a company that supplies ants for ant colony displays: "We iare sorry but we cannot ship ants outside continental limits of the United States. We are sending you a magnifying glass in lieu of ants and hope you can gather ants in your area when weather permits, making sure the ants are extra large. For shame. Someone wasn't reading Lazar lately. In this comer recently we pointed put the annual PW Bazzar had moved its original date from Feb. 11 to Feb. 20 and its traditional setting from Schara Txedeck (it's being renovated) to the Centre. . . Bertha Solman feels badly that a few people still turned up last Sunday at S.T. . . .But let everyone know the event is upcoming Feb. 20 at the Centre. Lots of metziyas and good food.
