ASHKELON
When you're always flying from one problem to another, ^ you deserve a little understanding.
Travelling for business is never easy.
You rush out of a tough meeting. Fight the traffic. Finally get to the airport just in time to catch your flight.
And what can you expect vv^hen you arrive ? More of the same.
Obviously Air France can't change all that. But we understand how hectic and difficult your life can be. So we do everything we can to make the part of it you spend with us as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.
That means the attention
you deserve. Serviee and entertainment when you want it. Or the. choice to work or rest undisturbed. Maybe it can be summed up best by the savoir-vivre that knows the value of a smile.

Ashkelon, located on the coast, is one of the ancient cities of the world. It was first built 4,000 years ago. Since then it has passed from hand to hand many times. It was destroyed and built anew. Ramses, King of Egypt, conquered it. Later it was settled by the Philistines and the hero Samson fought there. Still later it ^as conquered by the Assyrians, the Scythians, the Greeks, and the Romans. King Herod adorned the city with gardens and built beautiful buildings there.
In the Middle Ages, it was conquered by Richard the Lion Hearted. Afterwards it was ruled by the Arabs, the Turks, and the English. In the War of Independence (1948), TZAHAL captured Ashkelon, and shortly thereafter new immigrants came to live there. Today 40,000 people live there. Many of them work in the large factories for pipes, motor cars, etc.
In the old part of the city one can see ancient statues from Greek and Roman times, while the new part of Ashkelon serves as a modern commercial centre, with beautiful new buildings in green flower gardens, and broad roads on which traffic is comfortable and pleasant.
During the last few years, Ashkelon has become a tourist and holiday centre. The hotels are almost always full. An International Village was built in Ashkelon for guests who cannot pay much. In this Village one can live in huts, or even in tents. Young tourists from all over the world come to the Village. You can hear many languages there, and also very much singing and laughter.
As I stood on the ancient seashore, looking at the sand dunes and vineyards, I remembered the stories about the Hero Samson: "And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew 30 men of •them." The words of King David
rang in my ears: "PubUshl not in the streets of Ashkelon. But today we may proclaim: Go| to Ashkelon, for it is beautifi
