Community High Scliool's new Association hears of progress
Noteworthy progress reports and election of the board of trustees highlighted a well-attended meeting last Thursday at the Centre which founded the Association of the new Jewish Community High School.
Dennis Frankenburg was chosen achool treasurer and Mrs. Jack Austin appointed co-treasurer.
Nominated as trustees to serve on a provisional board for the first school semester were: Hy Altman, Q.C.; Mrs. Jack Austin; Dr. Alvin Boxer; Mrs. Rubin Feldman; Dennis Frankenburg; Dr. Harvey Gerber; HarryGreen-hut; Arthur Guttman; Mrs. A. J. Sacks.
The trustees will handle all financial matters and deal with many of the practical problems facing the school. During the first school semester the Association's constitution will be adopted and then formal elections will be held.
In his report, school principal Rabbi Leonard Oberstein emphasized that school registration is
coming in very well and that he is particularly pleased to have students who have never before been enrolled in a Jewish school.
If this trend continues school officials noted, they feel hopeful that a major impact will be made on local Jewish youth.
The "Early Bird" class, taught by Mrs. Gita Kron, has been meeting regularly to help students who did not know the 'Aleph Bet.' These students will enroll in the elementary Hebrew class with enough knowledge to keep up with the rest of the class, spokesmen stated.
During the course of the meeting, the chairman of the school's board of education, Mrs. Dennis Frankenburg gave a brief account of the events which led up to the founding of the school and
expressed her appreciation to the rabbis, teachers and laymen who have helped to bring this about.
Mrs. Frankenburg told The Bulletin that she was most gratified at the number of people who came to this opening meeting and joined as charter members of the Association.
"It is most encouraging," she said, "to find that the school has a broad base of support in the community and has attracted such wide-interest."
Officials pointed out that anyone who was unable to be present at the meeting but wishes to join the Association may do so by sending the nominal membership fee to the treasurer, Community High School, 998 W. 26th Ave., Vane. 9, B.C.
