Schora Tzedeck offers adults Yeshivo Univ. credit courses
Congregation Schara Tzedeck in ijunction with the department adult education of Yeshiva uni-rsity, has announced plans to :)n a school for adults called :eshivat Erev,". offering courses Judaica that can lead to a loma in Jewish Studies from department of adult education eshiva university, he new program will enable
adults to take courses at their own speed and level in many areas of Judaica, with six credits being offered for every ten-week course.
The first semester program will offer four courses every Thursday evening beginning Nov. 15.
The courses to be offered are: "Learning How to Daven (Pray),"

The course "Learning How to Daven (Pray)," designed to teach adults the technique of reading the Siddur as well as understand basic prayer. This class, entitled "100A" will meet from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m.
The second course, "lOOB", entitled "To be a Jew," will also be offered at the same time. It will focus on the rationale behind the important milestones in Jewish life. Usinga textbook by Hyman Donin, the class will analyze the meaning of the Sabbath and festivals, the Dietary Laws', as well as the Family Purity Laws. Supplementary material by leading Jewish thinkers of the time will be made available.
"Conversational' Hebrew for Beginners," is designed to teach Hebrew in a way that will not compromise the intellectual level of the group by using current events as the major resource provided, spokesmen said. The pre-requisite to course "lOOC" is the ability to read Hebrew.
It will meet from 8:45 - 9:45 p.m.
Course "lOOD," entitled "Famous Debates in the Talmud," will discuss the most popular Talmudic debates, applying their views to contemporary life. Using a new
English textbook by Louis Jacobs, the class will analyze such discussions as; "Must a man do a good deed if it brings him into danger?": ' •
"Whose life comes first when only one can be saved?". This course will meet from 8:45 - 9:45 p.m.
The morning division course for women, "Women in Jewish Law and Responsa," is a Study of the Hal.achik attitude toward Women with particular emphasis onques-tions-and-answers - an example, officials noted, being a responsa dealing with the right of keeping a woman's infidelity quiet versus
the moral obligation of informing the husband.
This class, course "lOOE," will meet every Wednesday, beginning Nov. 14 at 9:30 a.m.
Persons interested in the adult institute are asked to call the Schara Tzedeck office at 736-7607 for pre-registration. The fee per person is nominal, plus the cost of textbooks.
Final registration for the evening courses will be Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7:15 p.m. in the school building. Final registration for the morning program will be Wednesday , Nov. 14 at 9:30 a.m. in the Beis Medrash.

A guide to Jewish observance in contemporary life. (Reading Hebrew is a pre-requisite for this Course) This course is designed to teach conversotionol Hebrew in a way that will maintain the intellectual interest of the group by focusing especially on current events in Israel using Israeli newspapers. A textbook as well OS a subscription to the newspaper will be used. (6 credits)
