Hear and there — There are still openings to go to camp for last period at Hatikvah-Massada or Miriam this summer. Keep it in mind when junior says "nothing to do". . . Camp Miriam has been reluctantly turning away campers for its opening periods, marking its largest attendance in the past 10 years and crediting it to over 50 volunteers who have been working on behalf of the camp. . . Hadassah is planning a Western Tri-Regional confab in Calgary Sept. 8-9-10... Among 60 Canadians winning the Order of Canada award was Harry Cohen of Calgary, one of the famous Canadian Cohen brothers(brother of Qur Joe here). For Harry it caps many awards in the general community, which have included Citizen of the Year, human relations award from Council of Christians and Jews and an honorary doctorate from U. of Calgary. . . Did you know that Peter Oberlander's Dad was a pallbearer in Vienna at Theodor Herzl's funeral? . . . Mozah Zemans of Vancouver has been re-elected president ofthe Vanier Institute of the Family. . . New Hillel program director Diane Brosgall, 327-1745, has applications for local Jewish students in need of financial aid to continue
higher studies. B'nai B'rith Women District 4 are offering these grants to assist worthy college and university stiidents. . NCJW Vancouver Section study group on human rights, chaired by Bess Narod, presented a brief on matrimonial property late last month to the Berger commission on family law. . . Camp Rena, the new North Shore Jewish community day camp, needs a good angel to offer the use of a swimming pool once a week or once for the season, which lasts from July 22 through Aug. 9. Only a very few doctors are so honored in each province, and Dr. Maurice Fox was one of B.C. few to be awarded Senior Membership in the Canadian Medical Association during recent CMA convention in Toronto. . . District 4 Convention which gets underway here on Saturday night, July 13 with a special Havdala service and welcoming program at the Hyatt Regency downtown. .. Rabbi E. Richter, an Orthodox rabbi from L.A., vyings into town before Shabbos July 12 and will be met and hosted over the Sabbath by the only traditional B.B. lodge in the world, our own Rambam lodge. . . Al Jolson lodge in L.A. wrote ahead to request a hotel within walking distance of shul for Rabbi Richter and kosher meals throughout his stay here.

Lest we underestimate the power of a Women's Division CJA canvasser. . . Our local UJA dynamo, Dora Yorsh, wrote to the city about a year ago lamenting the lack ofa bus shelter near her on Oak street. . . The Mayor replied himself that something would be done about it in the next budget. . . And sure enough, workmen turned up last week and promptly erected the shelter.

terrorist raids, Yariv said, Israel has to ask whether the Arab states which signed undertakings to seek a just and durable peace through negotiations were sincere in their intentions and whether Israel could believe their signatures or the threats made in Cairo and Damascus against Israel following the Israeli raids on the terrorist bases in Lebanon.
Yariv said that if the Arabs were unwilling to control the terrorists this made their declaration on intentions to seek peace insincere. If they were unable to control the terrorists, this meant a peace settlement would be worthless since the terrorists could destroy it, he said.
