Vancouver BBW provides advisors to B'nai B'rith Girls and serves as mother chapters, encouraging leadership training and Jewish identity, and taking a leading part in sponsoring annual fundraising events to subsidize the continuity of the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization.
Over the past 50 years, BBW has provided numerous international programs of public service including assisting servicemen during wartime, fighting prejudice and anti-Semitism, extending support to the handicapped.
High on the list of present BBW priorities is the Children's Home in Israel, a residential treatment centre for emotionally-disturbed children aged 7-15. Most recently, BBW established the "Canadian Group House" for teen-agers, attended by a. highly-trained staff. Designed to-restore a normal childhood and a sense of belonging, the House's therapy methods include psychiatric counselling, group companionship, a family-like atmosphere, specialized schooling, individual guidance, sympathetic care. It's most recent residents are the shaken youngsters resulting from the Yom Kippur War and terrorist attacks.
To provide the many budgeted and unpredictable necessities needed by the Home, Vancouver BBW will hold their annual art auction in October, with the hope of reaching their maximum goals of support.
Vancouver BBW has now become the "Vancouver B'nai B'rith Women's Association of District Four", electing a new executive; president, Eva Crane; vice-president, Sarah Rubin; secretary, Tillie Kositsky, treasurer, Shoshanah Kushner.
This Association will co-ordinate fund-raising, public relations, community services, adultJewish education, promotion of the cookbook "Second Helpings Please," serve on B.B.Y.O. and Hillel boards, sponsor "The Dolls of Democracy" program through the school board, private schools and libraries, public affairs programs, retreat learning weekends and other educational areas are planned for the new year.
A resume of Vancouver BBW chapters and programs follows: Lion's Gate chapter No. 77 has contributed greatly to the Jewish community. Within its folds, many members originally with chapter #77 and Pacific chapter not only produced the only district president, from British Columbia, the late Rose Lifchus, but provided woman power in forwarding needed provisions to war-torn Europe, goodwill and public relations, Talmud Torah scholarships. With the other chapters, Lion's Gate contributed to the old and new Jewish Community Centres. Lion's Gate is looking forward to a new and progessive term, with Betty Carr as its president. She may be reached at 321-9526.
Centennial chapter No. 1022, formed 17 years ago, has been very active in the community-at-large. At the recent Seattle conclave. Centennial was presented second place awards in oversubscriptions for both earmarked and unearmarked funds for* all of District Four. Its fundraising project, "Queen Esther Ball," is an established social event.
Centennial has taken a particular interest in the Woodlands School for Retarded Children, adopting two wards of boys and putting parties on for them several times a year. The chapter has provided the school with much-needed equipment, such as an above -ground swimming pool, lumber for a halfway house, educational visual aids and toys. This year Centennial is furnishing a visitors lounge for children to visit with their parents in privacy, and also to be used for teachers and s,taff.
Centennial contributes to the Israel B.B.Y.O. Kallah program. Children's hospital, Camp Elphin-stone, food and clothing for needy
families (Jewish Family Service), Camp Miriam, Cancer Society, Arab-Israel program.
Centennial's new president is Phyllis Sapers, 437-0270.
Shari chapter No. 1506 is the newest and youngest addition to the family, organized by Arline Brisker, past president of Centennial and advised by Shirley Chess, P.P. of Centennial.
These young women constitute a vibrant and creative group who have already praticipated in fund-raising and community involve-
ment. They are busy on their new project, that of service to the Crestwood School for the Retarded.
Shari chapter was named in loving memory of Sharon Fro-hlinger, who in her short lifetime contributed greatly to BBW and the community-at-large. The first elected president of Shari chapter is Betty Charnaw, 872-7968.
Vancouver B'nai B'rith Women extends a warm welcome to any woman wishing to enrich her life by participating in community life.

MORE AGED IN ISRAEl
JERUSALEM — There is an increasing proportion of elderly people among the immigrants arriving in Israel, the Jewish Agency's immigration department reported to the annual Agency assembly.
During 1973, 10 percent of all immigrants were over 65. Most of the elderly settlers came from the Soviet Union.
