WE STAND BY ISRAEL - FORD
BY CHARLES FENYVESI
WASHINGTON - "America is proud of its association with Israel. We shall continue to stand by Israel. We are committed to Israel's survival and security."
United States President Gerald Ford greeted Israel Premier Itzhak Rabin with these words when he arrived in Washington Sept. 10 for a four-day visit.
Standing on the White House lawn, Rabin replied: "We are convinced that no issue, however complicated it may now appear, cannot be resolved by patient negotiation. However, much de-
pends on what other governments in the Middle East are prepared to do."
The Israeli Premier praised the United States for being "a strong and determined partner in the quest for peace" and then declared that just as America was "the paramount guarantor" of world peace, so only a strong Israel had "a chance of winning peace."

Fear Rome Chief Rabbi to be hostage for release of Capucci
ROME — Italian authorities have stepped up the protective surveillance of Jewish institutions and the homes of Jewish personalities, particularly in Rome, after receiving reports that Arab terrorists planned to kidnap a Jewish leader to be held hostage for the release of Archbishop Hilarion Capucci in Jerusalem.
Monsignor Capucci, the Greek Catholic Patriarchal Vicar in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, was arrested by Israeli police last month and charged with gun-running for El Fatah terrorists.
For the past two weeks, four policemen with a car have been keeping watch day and night outside the home of Dr. Elio Toaff, the Chief Rabbi of Rome.
Meanwhile, the Italian security forces have increased their watch on the activities of foreign students, particularly Arabs, in Florence ai\d Perugia.
Scores of expulsion orders are reported to have been served on young men whose unsatisfactory student record has aroused suspicion of authorities that their main motive for coming to Italy is other than scholastic.
A first group of 10 Arabs in Florence was recently ordered to leave the country within 72 hours.
In Perugia, where thousands of. Arab students attend a university for foreigners andthe State-run university, police expelled Mariko Yamamoto, a 34-year-old
Japanese woman suspected of terrorist links.
She had arrived in Perugia only a few days earlier after her expulsion from France for the same reason.
The State University in Perugia houses the headquarters of the Union of Palestinian Students in Italy.
Five Syrian medical students were also served with deportation orders by Italian police. Of these, two accepted the decision, one is contesting it and the other two have disappeared.

ATHENS — A ten-member United Staines Transport Security Departm^t team is in Athens following flue Sept. 15 TWA airliner crash with the loss of 88 lives.
The airliner. Flight A41, was on a scheduled flight from Tel Aviv to New York via Athens and Rome. Some 40 minutes after taking off from Athens, it crashed in the Ionian Sea some 60 miles west of the island of Cephalonia.
A possible cause of the tragedy is Arab terrorist sabotage. Soon after the crash, a hitherto unknown terrorist group calling itself the Organization of Arab Nationalist Youth for the Liberation of Palestine sent a "communique" to the Agence France-Presse office in Beirut claiming responsibility for the loss of the airliner.
The group claimed that it had infiltrated one of its members aboard the flight and that a bomb
he was carrying exploded after the airliner had taken off from Athens.
However, the Palestine Liberation Organization, the terrorist umbrella group, later denied the claims.
The senior Athens coroner, stated that following postmortems he had conducted on some of the crash victims, he was satisfied that there had not been an explosion.
Most of the passengers on the ill-fated flight were Americans, some of them Jewish. The rest included Greeks, Japanese and two Israeli couples - Dr. and Mrs. Richard Katzman and Mr. and Mrs. Ben-Zion Shai.
The Katzmans were new immigrants from America. Shai arrived in Israel some 12 years ago from Uruguay. His wife was a sabra.
