Whether performed in Yiddish *for the past*, in Hebrew *for the present' or as a musiciail solo, every number drew an enthusiastic response from tiie capacity audience attending the concert in honor of Jewish Music Montl^. The entire repertoire possessed the distinctiye sad aiid yearning melodic harmohies so characteristic of Jewish music. But tBs was always complemented with contrasting 'freilacheV songs providing a natural cue for spontaneous audience; clapping.

at the piano, violinists Annie Edel and Jack Shapiro, and the Beth Israel Choir, directed by Sol Pelman.
The debut of the Lion's Gate lodge B'nai B'rith String Ensemble, performing an overture of Jewish melodies in tribute to the American composer, Sholom Secunda, was a delightful treat. The level of achievement of this new, talented group of 28 musicians is a tribute to their conductor. Max Kushnir, and their :patron' the Lion's Gate lodge B.B. -
Commentaries: on the program's various numbers were provided by B.L Assistant Rabbi Paul Plotidn who also gave contrasts of humor and seriousness in his narrations.
THE PROGRAM opened with a beautiful medley of Passover songs arranged by Hazzan Nixon and instrumentally performed by Mrs. Edel, Mr; Shapiro and Mr. Ehrlich. The program appropriately concluded with the Choir singing these same numbers in their Ma Nishtanah Medley, also arranged by Hazzan Nixon and featuring Mr. Kushnir as soloist. The medley consisted of the familiar Passover favorites, Eliykhu Hahavi, Adir, Hu and Leshana Haba'a B'Yerushalayim, but presented in the new niusic versions introduced at the Israeli Chassidic Song Festivals.
