Hear and there — Contract for construction of a 44-room addition to the Louis Brier Home has now been approved and building should be starting almost at once with completion scheduled by midsummer. . . Doris Bloomffield of Victoria recently made the news as a $100,000 LuclQr Leo sweepstakes winner. Mazal tov . . . Mozah Zemans, past president and chairman of the board of the Vanier Institute of the Family, recently retired f irom the Institute. Named in Ottawa last week as two new B.C. board members were Mr. Justice Thomas Berger and Sol Kort... Succinct words found on page two this week deal with an annual dilemma in, unfortunately, many Jewish homes. The piece was penned by a very well known author and Reform rabbi... Running now through Dec. 18 is the 1977 winter exhibition of the Federation of Canadian Artists showuig at Presentation House, 209 West Fourth, North Van. Among artists whose works are being exhibited are three familiar names: Rebecca Wenger, Eva
Zbar and Molly Zilberman.

The problems involved in bringing Israeli name leaders were evident last weekend when, a lot of disappointed people (and a very disappointed Boys Town Jerusalem committee) weren't able to hear General Arik Sharon ... The 1973 war hero now Israeli Minister of Agriculture sent the following telegram of apology and explanation...
"Deeply regret inability to address your important reception for Boys,Town Jerusalem due to extraordinary cabinet meeting. Please convey my apologies to your dedicated committee and guests. The cause of Boys Town Jerusalem is synonymous with the cause of Israel. Its over 5,000 graduates are outstanding in industry, education and defense. Its educational program combining academic, technical and spiritual training, is promoting unity by bridging the social gap. My visit last week there wiUi the faculty and the boys has convinced me that it is the leading school in Israel. I predict that with the completion of
its development program it will be a model for the entire world. This remarkable school has- now become for me a soiirce of infinite hope in the difficult days ahead. Our government is indeed deeply appreciative of your dedicated efforts on its behalf. ,A Happy CSianuka to you all and with prayers for peace ..
Signed simply Sharon

But whUe the open meeting slated for the evening had to be^ cancelled, the committee decided to go ahead with a small luncheon Sunday in support of Boys Town ... The event was hosted by Arthur Fouks, Q.C., Al Kolberg, Morris Miller, Joseph Segal and Morris J. Wosk.. . Highlight of the affair was the presence of Boys Town founder Ira Guilden, an indefatigable young octogenarian who hopped on the first plane in New York to fly here when he heard the Vancouver conmiittee needed help . ..That kind'' of personal devotion may explain not only his success in the banking field but in his fii^t love ... the Boys Town institution which he has seen flourish from birth in 1949.
Vancouver resident Beth Kaplan is on cross-Canada tour with Cruel Tears an original Canadian play co-authored by Saskatchewan playwright Ken Mitchell and the western musical group Humphrey and the Dumptrucks, if you please.' . . She has studied at the London Academy of Music and Ramatic Art and is now living in Vancouver where she was acclaimed earlier this year for her
role as Denise in Bonjour, La Bonjouir... Beth Kaplan is also the grand-daughter of famous Yiddish plajnvright 'Jacob (jordin and we hear hopes some day to play Lady McBeth.
