/SEATTLE — Opposition to Christian missionary efforts on pubic school grounds by evangelical groups was approved in a policy latement by the Church Council of Greater Seattle.
I The statement by the church pouncil. describing such activities by Young Life as a violation of ktudent rights, followed a protest by a committee from Temple De JHirsch-Sinai after reports of at-Itempts to infiuenve students to adopt jChristianity, according to a report /by Philip R. Scheier of the Jewish 17><m5m>/of Seattle, i Rabbi Gary Grenebaum of Temple De Hirsch-Sinai said the mere fact of such a missionary group being on a school campus was a form of proselytizing. The rabbi made his statement in response to a defense of Young Life's activities by a spokesman, Jon Wulf.
Students reported Young Life has been active on Seattle high school grounds for several years.
Wulf denied the group operated on school grounds, saying Young Life members **may meet** with students at sports events or at fast-food places.
At a hearing on the issue at a educational centre. Craig Sternberg, chairman of the Jewish Federation's community relations committee, said that, as a father, as CRC chairman and as an attorney, he opposed any form of religious observance in the public schools, "whether it be prayers, proselyti-zation, baccalaureates or religious observations.**
At hearings, foes of sectarian activities cited the work of such groups as Young Life, which they said often resulted in peer pressure, especially on members of minority groups, such a^ Jewish students.
They challenged the apparent allowance by the school board of such activities despite the clear-cut constitutional ban on any form of proselytizing.
Sternberg said he had been surprised to discover, in talks with students at the High School for Jewish Students, hew pervasive such religious influences were.
He said the Jewish students at public high schools were concerned that Young Life and other missionary group members did not announce that their objective was to proselytize for Christian causes.
He said the Jewish students were also concerned by the use of public shcool property, including activity centre and bulletin boards, for meetings and announcements of invitations to students to attend meetings of such groups.
Sternberg reported that some students who had responded to invitations to meet with missionary groups "have converted to Christianity-Aim to resolve Brooklyn conflicts

Major advances in optometry now make it possible for most people with poor eyesight to rapidly improye their vision— so that glasses or contact lenses are no longer needed. Vision Therapy is endorsed by the American Optometric Association, and provides an effective new method of correcting:
• nearsightedness
9 farsightedness
m astigmatism
9 middle-age sight

Many optometrists now use Vision Therapy. But not enough to keep up with the growing demand. The Bettervision Institute is concerned that more people improve their eyesight— and has developed a special program for the average person to use in the comfort and privacy of their home.
How does Vision Therapy work? Just as you exercise your body to stay in shape, Vision Therapy exercises your eye muscles to improve their vitality and focusing power. You do simple easy exercises that bring your eyeball back into the spherical shapie needed for clear vision. The exercises also increase your natural focusing ability.
External muscles control the movement of the eye. Muscular tension squeezes the eyeball out of shape.
Vision Tlierapy can help people of all ages see more clearly, com-fortablyp and efficiently. Common problems that can be significantly improved include: difficulty Hi reading, writing, or other close up work; frequent headaches, discomfort and fatigue; periodic blurring of yision; eyesight problems causing poor performance at school or in sports; either or both eyes turning in or out; a tendency to use one eye more than the other."
eau$#s poor eyesight
About 8% of all eyesight problems are due to inherited defects. Another 5% are caused by injury or disease. The remaining 87% are brought on by natural aging or severe eyestrain—and can be greatly helped by Vision Therapy. Poor lighting, too much reading, emotional distress, high-pressure jobs, famify^ conflicts, iear of growing old—all these common stress situations can trigger an eyesight problem.
® IF YOU'RE UNDER 40, the main factor is accumulated stress and tension—which squeeze your eyeball out of shape, and weaken the inner mujscles that focus the eye. Your eyes can't form a clear picture, and so your vision gets blurry. Vision Therapy can overcome these problems, and help your eyes get back into shape.
® IF YOU'RE OVER 40, natural aging makes the inner muscles weak, and your eyes lose their focusing power. Reading often becomes difficult. Vision Therapy can help even older eyes regain their vitality and strength.
The trouble witti glasses
Glasses don't cure an eyesight problem. In fact, they usually make things worse. By making the eye muscbs lazy and weak, a minor problem usually develops into a lifetime handicap. Contact lenses can even be dangerous. They often trap particles of dust and dirt that can permanently damage the eye. Vision Therapy can improve your eyesight so that neither glasses or contact lenses are needed.
See below how distortion of the ^ebail prevents light from coming to a proper focus...

If your eyesight is not too bad to start with, you can expect to return to clear vision in about 3 to 5 weeks. If your eyesight is joopr, you will „ return to clear vision in stages—using weaker glasses as your^eyesight improves.
