he was in Gaza, he spoke with Begin on the phone. However, Dayan told Defence Minister Ezer Weizman beforehand. Weizman also did not comment on the talks. ~
A source in Jerusalem said, "We meet Arab mayors who are much more outspoken in their identifica-tion with the PLO than Dr. Shafi."
Interior Minister Yosef Biirg, the chairman of the ministerial autonomy negotiation team, dispelled rumors that Dayan*s meeting in Gaza had rubbed him the wrong way.
Burg said that there would probably come a time whenhe too, by virtue of his autonomy functions, might begin meeting Arab figures in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip. His only condition would be that these personalities did not carry the stamp of the PLO blatantly. Burg said.
Most outspoken was the chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense committee, Moshe Arensof
Herut, who accused Dayan of "shooting from the hip again — and .in the wrong direction."
Arens deplored Dayan's action, taken, he said, just when Israel was fighting desperately against growing Western recognition. and contact with the PLO.
If Dayan's reasoning was that Israel must know first-hand what the various Palestinians were thinking, then by,.the same token, Areris charged, there was nothing to; stop payan meeting with PLO Chief Yasir Arafat.
Arens dismissed the supposed distinction between talking and negotiating.
Dayan, for his part, said that Arens' reaction came as no surprise to him. Kor, of course, had he been surprised by any of the views expressed by Abdul-Shafi.
The doctor had twice been exiled . from the Gaza Strip for pro-PLO activities during Dayan's term as Defense Minister.

Cross by saying "No way can the Red Cross, in any part of the.;Wprld take planes into another country. Realistically, a great deal of this (airlift and rescue work) must be done through hard negotiated efforts."
Barnet, however, did promise to "check into the matter thoroughly."
In the presence of the protesters, Barnet called American Red Cross headquarters in Washington and was notified by them that the Red

Barnet told the group that the "Red Cross in the U.S. is concerned with this problem" and that he will go to the national headquarters to present the group's concern.
Lenny Spector, a co-chairman of CJY, called the International Red Cross "morally bankrupt" in its failure to recognize the Israeli Red Mogen David as a legitimate affiliate 6f the international organization.
Barnet conceded that this was so and that many of the anti-Israeli "emerging nations" who vote on International Red Cross membership were responible for blocking the Israeli group's admission.
The group concluded their meeting with Barnet by lighting yahrzeit candles and reciting a memorial service loTFalashas who perished in Ethiopia's political upheavals.

Dear Mr. Kaplan:
Thank you for your letter enclosing two editorials from The Jewish Western Bulietin(June2S, July 14). I appreciate your concern about the Government's policy with regard to the Canadian Embassy in Israel, and am enclosing copies of the Prime Minister's statement of June 23, 1979 as well as my own statement of June 7 on this subject.
From these you will see that the Government is giving most careful
DEFENOO' COULD SAVE ONE'S LIFE
Dear Mr. Kaplan:
We are extremly fortunate to have in our community a young gentleman of 84. He is Bill Underwood, creator and developer of *Defendo', a non-aggressive form of self-protection which can only be used in the event of being physically attacked, not to attack.
If needed, it is a most valuable form of life-protection which can be used decisively by anyone 9 to 90, boy or girl, man or woman.
Recently, through assistance of The Bulletin^ we were able to make it known to the community that courses will be held at the Centre in September. Demonstrations have been given, to which a few persons showed up.
Demonstrations have also been given for children at Talmud Torah and Camp Miriam. The youngsters were all very excited and naturally, contrary to advise, were eager to attempt it on each oth^r. Parents shbiild be advised that *Defendb' is a ^ form of life-isaving and can be Used only if attacked; it cannot be.used as a contest of strength, speed and endurance.
It is not dangerous if properly used but must not be attempted following> a demonstration without formal instruction. We are encouraging adults to acquire a prior knowledge of Defendo in order to assist young people.
We are extremely fortunate that this opportunity has come our way. It could save someone's life. I urge the community to take advantage of this program.
