Order of the Lights

1. At nightfall on the first night Chanuka we use the Shamash to kindle one light, On the following night — two; third night, three; and so <ni, so that on the eighth night of Chanuka the Shamash is used to kindle all eight lights.
2 On the first night, before kindling the lights of Chanuka, three blessings are said (See Page 9/>r5Nov. 20, 1980).
3. On the following nights only the first two blessings are said. Lights are kindled left to right.
4. After lighting the candles, "Ha-nerot Halalu" and "Ma-oz Tzur" (above) are traditionally sung. .....
5. No use should be made of the light shed by the Chanuka lights such as reading or working by their light.
6. It is customary to add to the festive spirit by giving Chanuka gelt or small gifts to the children, playing dreidle and eating Latkes. In Israel sweet

7. On Friday eve, the Chanuka lights are kindled before the Sabbath lights. Additional oil (or larger candles) should be provided for the Chanuka lights after nightfall.
