Schara Tzedeck Mikvah certified fully kosher
Official notification in writing attesting to the kashruth, of the Mikvah at Schara Tzedeck synagogue was received here recently by Rabbi Baruch ^Zaichyk. spiritual leader of the congregation. The letter was from the Helmitzer Rebbe. Rabbi Chaninya Yom Tov, Lepe Deutsch. world expert on building and checking kosher mikvahs.
The Helmitzer Rebbe has worked with Mikvahs all over North America and on at least four other continents over the past 31 years since he arrived in the U.S. after surviving Nazi tortures in Europe. He was rav of the town of Helmetz near Prague in Czechoslovakia, where nearly all Helmitzer Jews were slaughtered during the Holocaust.
Rabbi Deutsch was invited to Vancouver last month by Rabbi Zaichyk and Congregation Schara Tzedeck to inspect the state of the shuFs Mikvah.
The following text is translated and exerpted from the Helmitzer Rebbe's recent letter of certification of the S.T. Mikvah:
"I would like to state that the Mikvah. at Schara Tzedeck synagogue^ is Kosher beyond any shadow of a doubt.
"I was twice in Vancouver a^ Schara Tzedeck. and I have checked everything from the drains on the roof to the pipes leading down to the Mikvah as well as the Mikvah itself. Everything was done correctly.
"Concerning the Kashnith of the Mikvah. I have also conferred with Rabbi Joseph Grunwald and with Rabbi Moses Stem. They have agreed with me that Schara Tzedeck Mikvah is Kosher beyond any shadow of a doubt."
Rabbi Deutsch is author of the 10 volume Taharas Yqm-Tov. acclaimed -^jir^ughQut t$e*iewfsh,wdrld/4sr the definitive work on the laws of Taharas Hamishpacha (Family Purity) and the intricate laws of the Mikvah (ritual bath).

Use of Yiddisli down in USSR
LONDON — According to a World Jewish Congress study, there has been a sharp decline in the use of Jewish languages — principally Yiddish — in the Soviet Union to the point where only 14 percent of the country^s Jews now name a Jewish language as their mother tongue.
The percentage of Jews giving the Jewish language as their mother tongue ranged from a low of nine percent in the Ukraine to a high of 41 percent in the tiny Baltic republic of Lithuania among the II republics for which data hais'been assembled.'
However, even the high figure for Lituania represents a significant drop from the 62 percent reported some nine years earlier. JTA.

would automatically be sentenced to death.
It may be observed that although capital punishment was not permitted in Great Britain, death sentences were frequently passed by the courts in Palestine and were duly carried out in the prisons.

Every effort was made by the Jewish community to persuade the civil and military authorities to commute the sentence. Several days before Gruner was hanged I had a meeting in the King David hotel with Mr. Fox-Strangways, political secretary to the High Commissioner, in the course of which I asked him if he could give me any news in regard to the Gruner case. He replied, "No, but I do not think that anyone wants to see the poor chap hanged.''
This was received by the community as good news. But their relief was very short-lived for only a few days later Gruner, together with three of his comrades, was taken out of his cell at night and hanged without any prior warning either to me or to their families.
Repeated warnings had been given to the Foreign Secretary, Ernest Bevin, that reppsaU would be taken against British servicemen if the prisoners were hanged. All these warnings were rejected by Mr. Bevin, who could have saved the lives of the two sergeants.
However, what is not generally known, Gruner's sentence was carried out while a petition was pending before the judicial committee of the Privy Council for leave to appeal against the sentence of the military court, a fact of which both the military and the civil authorities were fully aware.
So far as 1 have been able to ascertain, there was no precedent in English judici^:histor>' for a sentence of death tt>t)e carried out.while legal proceedings on behalf of the accused were pending before the courts.

Rumanian pidilication celebrates 25th year
BUCHAREST — Rumanian Jewry recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its publication. Revista Culturui Mozaic. a fortnightly which also includes sections in Hebrew and English. The review is the only Jewish publication legally distributed in the other countries of the Soviet bloc. Thousands of copies are mailed to subscribers in the Soviet Union. Hungary. Czechoslovakia. Poland and Bulgaria.
There are some 35.000 Jews registered with the Jewish community left in Rumania, with half of them living in Bucharest. The rest is scattered in Jassy. Clug. Targul, Mare and other provincial centres. In Bucharest alone minyans are held daily in 12 synagogues and 20 are open on Saturdays and for important holidays.
,The community also operates a vast network of social aii?d cultural installation which include homes for the aged, youth centres and medical help. Over 1^000 people eat at the community centre in Bucliarest every day. The kosher canteen, like the other installations, is run with financial aid of Joint Distribution Committee.
Jewish emigration from Rumania is expected to approach this year the figure of 1,000. Last year 950 Jews left for Israel and figure for first seven months for 1981 reportedly is 550. JTA.

Israel, it needs again to be stressed that not only was the King David hotel a civilian building but that, like the PLO today, the British placed its GHQ among civilians within a wing of that hotel.
The Irgun had planned in detail how to destroy that wing which contained the British records of thousands of Jews in all three arms of the Resistance. The Joint Command (Hagana, Irgun and Lehi) had approved the action but withdrew consent after the operation had been put in motion. The reason for withdrawal of approval was solely political and had nothing to do with the modus operandi itself.
The normal warning was given in plenty of time and, contrary to the fiction now being put about, the warning was received in the proper quarters in time to avoid all casualties.
It was Sir John Shaw, secretary to the Mandatory Government, who decided to ignore the warning. The words he used were that nobody was to leave the building as, "No bloody Jews give me orders."
I know this because within hours I had a report from an active member of the Hagana, planted in the GHQ, who knew of the operation before-, hand and who ignored Shaw's command and therefore survived to inform me of the casualties he caused. , ,
The operation was very successful as all records'were destroyed thereby putting the- Bfitish occupiers at a great disadvantage in their war against the Jews.
