A new irtiaftial arts club, the Maccabi Karate club, will commence classes Monday, Feb. 22, with participation open to. all interested persons. ^
the styletobe taught, Kyukoshin-Kai, one of the oldest and best known in the world, is headed by Mas Oyama, who first brought Kieirate to North America. Kyukb-shin is regarded by authorities as beitig both practical and effective in self*defense situations.
Teaching the 'i^^^ is Sehsei Michael Eltermaii who received his: black belt in 1976 and his accredi-tatipn from Japan. He has competed at the national level in Sout;h Africa and was chief instructor at Queens University in Ontario while attending graduate school
Classes will take place twice a week^ Mohdays and Wednesdays, 7 8:30 ^p;m.v at Schara Tzedeck, ppeo^to both males ^ndfema^ 14 and 6v^, Fees are being kept at a minimum rate for this non-profit venture and all necessary equipment will be paid for from the club account.
Potential students can decide at the first' session if they want to
continue, in the classes. Participants are being asked to weai^ither a karate suit or shorts and a T-shirt.

New inducements to bolster aliyah
TEL AVIV — Several proposals bn how niofe American Jews might be induced to settle in Israel were presented df the annual conference bf the Association of Americansand Canadians in Israel, which recently took place in Arad.
One suggestion was that' every synagogue in the US. and Canada purchase an apartment in Israel and allow each family in the congregation to spend a half year in it. The idea is that at least some of the families^ would decide to stay on in ^artmehts of their owii.
Other suggestions were for synagogues to offer each Bar-Mitzvah boy a gift in the form of a free trip to Israel and for North American Jewish communities to sponsor the first year in Israel for new immigrants from their area.
