The most potentially damaging consequence; of Reform's shattering of this jtf/i/flrc/i/c principle is that the Israeli Orthodox establishment may^ now demand a change in the^o^^^-s/ievwr; (the Law of* Return) in which Jewiish status will be ascertained only through Haiachic prescription/.
This is bound to aggravate the whole question of nbh-Orthodox expressions of Judaism in Israel, The Refdrm movement has made an unwise decision.
party is taken to task
Dear Mr. Kaplan:
. Jewish members of the federal Liberal party of Canada are true hypocrites., , •
The Israeli *irmy attack on the Palestine Liberation Organization in Lebanon this past summer has resulted m a sharp verbal attack on" Israel by the Prime Minister; Mr. Trudeiaiu. That attack was a clear signal to the (Canadian press and Ixtemat affairs officials to do the same.. In particular, Quebec inembers of parliament were the most'outspoken..
When Arafiat had to depart from Be^t due to the
pr^ure of Israeli army pressure; the Grefek Prime Minister Papandreou who was formerly a professor at York uhiversity in Tdrohtoi^^ftt a luxury ship to Beirut to bring Arafat — including; his Moscow trained army staff ^ ta Greece: and embraced Arafat as his brother. At the same time, the Oreek
press adopted a most vicious Geobbels-style attack on Israel afid Jews in general.
The Pope also welconied Arafat^ a man whose hands are tarnished by the blood of innocent Jewish children killed by the PLO. This is not surprising in the light of recent history: during World War Two, the Papacy never protested the kUling of over one million Jewish children by the Nazis in Europe in 1943^ 45, neither did the Jesuits of Quebec j^rotest.
Recently Mr. Trudeau weteomed^ Mr Papandreou to Toronto. It was indeed a warm welcome too for a fellow socialist, one that had previously given a brotherly embrace to Yasser Arafat the killer of Jewish children jandi mothers.
One never hears any word of criticism from Jewish members of the Liberal party about the warm welcome to Canada of Prime Minister Papandreou. I suppose Bob'Kaplan the Federal minister needs the income from his job and Harry Hammer the Liberal candidate in Vancouver needs to be elected.

Dear Mr. Kaplan;
Alvin Narod merely the chairman of the new Centre building committee. He was the man more responsible than any other for the realization of a dream, the longtime dream of a Community Centre appropriate to the needs of Vancouver's rapidly growing Jewish pop^ ulation.

The brand was *Ravit'—a big, firm red tomato, so we were told. It was hard to imagine that these small plants would ever produce anything. We expected them to wither and die in the inhospitable Israeli sun which had baked the soil so hard that cracks appeared in it.
But despite our pessimism we persevered and watered at night, the sprinklers tossing water overthemlnrainbow-cqtpred arcs,, and the e»rth smelling sweet andfresh in the night ajr. It seemed like a miracle wh^n in just a few^weeks the plants stood straight and tall and bore yellow flpwers and a profusion of leaves. They seemed to grow outward too^ each plant stretching out toward thenext soas to approach its neighbor. Another two weeks and4he flowers had given way to small green tomatoes in such profusion we couldn't believe our eyes.
Then they b^an to ripen, hiding under the leaves. From above you could see nothing, butcrouch down, thrust in your hand and feel the smoothness and firmness of a large^ perfect tomato. Theones underneath ripened first; warmed by the heat
of the sun*baked earths Each plant carried about lOr kilos of big tomatoes — firm, juicy, magnificent
