If the person decides to leave, the membership fee is returned.
The project has received approval from City Hall, subject to rezoning etc., and is being supported by CMHC.
It was pointed out that the concept of co-op housing is very popular in the Vancouver area, with huge waiting-lists for projects of other local groups such as Innercity and Columbian Housing.
Meanwhile, the VERA group, working diligently over the past two years, is hopeful that flie sbcl-tuming will take place this fall, with completion and occupancy a year later.
Additional information on the VERA endeavor will be presented at a public hearing Thursday, Aug. 11, about 7 p.m. at City Hall.
PARSHATEKEV
Mitzvahs are like gold nuggets lying on the street. You have to pick them up and earn a fortune for the World to Come.
Reb Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev stayed up the whole night of Succot, waiting for sunrise so he could perform the mitzvah of i!tf/av and etrbg^
When day broke, Reb Levi Yitzchak was so excited, he reached for his etrog right through the glass doors of his cabinet. The glass broke and his hand bled from the gash. But he was so enthusiastic^ about the mitzvah, he neither saw nor felt what he had done to himself.
How can you do a mitzvah properly, with feeling? You have to be excited before you do it. The most beautiful part of the mitzvah is getting ready for it.
The parsha begins: V*haya ekev tishm*im. . . . And it shall come to pass, because you hearken to these ordinances, and keep and do them . . ."
Why the double words, "keep" and "do?" - The Hebrew word for keep is shmariem. It has a special meaning, not just to keep, but to wait for the mitzvah. A Jew shouldn't just put on tephillen. He should wake up in the morning and think: "When can I wrap myself in the holy mitzvah? When will a poor man cross my door so I can do tzedakahr
V*shamru b'nai Yisrael et Hashiabbat! And the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath! "No, not just keep... V*shamru! They should wait, they should pine and be impatient! Ach, it's just Tuesday, too bad. It's just Wednesday, another plain day. When'will it be Shabbos? How many days until the TVes^^Offta Yeseirah?
Two people invited guests to their home. The first welcomed his guest at the door. He gave him the finest foods, a clean room, great respect. He was a fine host. ;
The second heard the guest was coming. The minute he knew of the approaching visitor, he ran out to greet him with his whole family. Even before the guest reached the threshold, they were dancing with glee.
The same with Shabbat, the same with every mitzvah. We have to run to the mitzvah, embrace, dance with it, know that outheshamas will thrive someday hot from 50 percent inflation or 6 percent, but from 100 percent mitzvot and maasimtovim.
The Baal Shem Tpv. added his. own pshjat (interpretation). Vhdya ekev Oshmhm..-. The word for "because"iseitev, which means the "heel," or the "end."
Said the Baal Shem Tov: "A Jew must look at each mitzvah as though it's the end, the last mitzvah he will have time to do in his life. How greatly would he want to get tjiat last good deed right, whole, complete!"
Above all, a mitzvah has to be full of love, for G-d, for other people, for every living thing.
Shabbot Shalom.
