meaning of life? Are we created only to die? Is life nothing but a crueljoke? Very often I wonder whether there is a hereafter. Frankly, Vm afraid of dying. / really am afraid!
I am writing to you in the hope that you can offer me some words of strength. IVIy Dear Friend:
Obsessive preoccupation with death is very often ah indication of a troubled, unhappy life. When days, months, and years pass by without meaningful accomplishments, when plans go awry, when goals are not real-
days, you will also learn to accept death as a natural aspect of human existence. A busy individual, who is immersed in mitzvot, who is devoted to the welfare of others, simply does not have time for morbid speculation on death. He knows that good deeds will serve as the passport for life eternal, and therefore, no task will be too overwhelming for him.
It would be ludicrous to believe that The Almighty G-d, who created man with a mind and a soul, who created for man's sake the majestic beauty of the earth, should

G-d is Justice, Truth, and mercy. It is He, Himself, who promised us immortality — a world beyond this planet in which all the inequities of life might be resolved and the soul might rejoice in the radiance of G-d's presence.
As it is written: "The dust shall return to the earth as it was, and the spirit shall return to The G-d who gave it."
Yet, as you stated in your letter, we.do not wish to die, but on the other hand, we did not wish to be born either! Life and death are not a matter of choice. Once we are born, however, we come to love life and to dread the unknown — death.
Paradoxical as it may seem, life is precious precisely because it is limited. While we live, we have the opportunity to champion justice, to abide by the discipline of G-d (the observance of mitzvot) and thereby strive to make the world a bit better for our having walked on it.
Our sages understood this well, and therefore they taught, "Better one hour of repentence and good works in this world than the whole life in the world to come . meaning that while we are here on earth we have the opportunity to perfect ourselves through good deeds so that we may inherit the World To Come.
If your belief in G-d is steadfast, and you live your life in dignity and honor, then
