Soviets may invite^lsraeli film makers
JERUSALEM — A Soviet screenwriter has promised to askthe Union of SovieLfilm-makers to invite "an Israeli delegation to the next internar tional film festivaKn-MoscoWi
"Nothing has been finalized but we are very^ptimistic that something positive will take pl^ce,'' said Alexander Cher-vinsky who was visiting Israel for the Jerusalem film festival.
The director of the Jerusalem Cinematheque Theatre proposedthat Israeli films be screened in the Soviet Union
and the idea was enthusiasti-" cally received by the visiting Soviet delegation, led by —directors Alexander Ascoldov and Herz Franlc.
Yitzhak Navon, Education and Culture Minister, announced- at the festival establishment of a ministerial fund to encourage Israeli scriptwriters.
"With 103 different ethnic communities speaking 82 different languages there is no lack of stories which need telling," he said.
_ The-graipe appears to be a rather ordinary fruit, similar to many common fruits iiT appearance. But hidden within it, to be "revealed" only by lengthy and careful processes of extraction, fermentation etc., is the noblest of drinks — wine.
Rashi's commentary on the Torah is called the "wine" of Torah; hidden within the words of simple, straightforward explanation of the verse there lie esoteric inner aspects of Torah.
The opening \yords otSidra Ki Seitsay are, "When you shall go out to do battle with your enemies etc. . .on
which Rashi comments, This versed is speaking of a war which is permissible (but not specifically commanded byG-d like the wars against the seven Canaanite nations).
Chassidism, expounding the inner teachings of the Torah, explains that the verse alludes to the battle of one's spirit.
If so, the question arises, how can this be termed a "permissible" war? Are we not specifically commanded byG-d to'do^bk^ttle with our Evil Inclination and animal instinct?
The answer lies in the two methods of dealing with one's Evil Inclination, the 'warlike' prayer method, and the peaceful Torah approach.
PRAYER: "The time of prayer is a time of battle," because during prayer the G-dly soul "clothes itself in the animal spirit and becomes
involved with the animal spirit, working with it and struggling with itio. overcome its animalism.
TOkAH: "Her (the Tor-ah's) ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace," for the study of Torah causes a G-dly spirit to radiate and be revealed within one's soul; as a result, j)ne's animal spirit is overcome without a struggle. Its animaUsm is nullified and it is uplisted — peacefully.
Dealing with one's evil inclination and aninialism through prayer is a vitally essential approach for every person; it is a 'warlike' approach involving battle. However, it is termed a "permissible war," for there is also the peaceful method of Torah study.
