Jewish spiritual retreat
LORNE MALUM SPECIAL TO THEJEWISH BULLETIN
The week-long Jewish spiritual retreat ach Ha'Arctz (Spirit of the Earth) is being held in British Columbia for the first time and is offering discoimts for Canadian residents. Previously in California and C!oIorado, Ruach Ha'Aretz runs iroxa Jime 21 to 27 at Mountain View Camp and Conference Centre, also known as Camp Hope and the site of Or Shalom retreats. The theme this year is Exploring Sacred Relationships.
Rabbi David Mivasair of Aha-vat 01am Synagogue said it's "a wonderful opportunity to study with some of Jewish Renewal's gifted teachers and live in an intimate setting of about 200 spiritually minded folks."
Rabbi Itzchak Marmorstcin said "this retreat is intimate, spiritually deep, great fun and offers tremendous learning possibilities, li includes an excellent children's program. If you cannot come to the whole week, one can come for Shabbat."
Marmorstein is teaching a week-long workshop on A Love for All Existence: The Song of Rav Kook, one of 13 week-long workshops at Ruach Ha'Aretz. Teachers include rabbis Shefa Gold, Leah Novick, Wayne Dosick and Ruth Can Kagan, Cantor Robert Esformes and Chazzan Richard Kaplan, who was a hit in Vancouver at the West Coast Sacred

Retreat organizers say the children's program is an interesting, joyful and nurturing Jewish Renewal experience filled with music, play, crafts and davening as a deeply personal expressioiL An inclusive and participatory program for teens is also an integral part of the Ruach experience.

Wilderness Shabbaton
Adam va-Adamah and Squamish Nation in tlie Elaho.
The Squamish Nation, along with the Adam va- Adamah Environmental Society, is inviting the Jewish commimity and others to experience the beauty of the outdoors, while honoring Shabbat at a Wilderness Shabbaton in Jime. The event vidll be held in the Elaho Valley at the society's annual wilderness Shabbaton Jimc 11-13. This Shabbaton is being held in coi\jimction with the Squamish Nation's Witness Program and gives lu-ban Jews an opportunity to engage in the beauty of British Co-Ivmibia's wilderness, see the effects of logging practices and eiyoy the traditions of the Squamish Nation, while observing Shabbat.
For the first time, this summer's Wilderness Shabbaton will include participants from Christian and multifaith environmental groups. Opportimities to learn about and share respective religious traditions will be a part of the weekend's casual program.
Campsites are a very short walk fi-om the logging road, and no backpacking is needed. Extra-light camping gear is not essential nor is any particular fitness level. Participants bring their own tents, sleeping bags, food and water, and should feel free to bring siddurim, chvunashim, candles and other items to celebrate Shabbat.
Carpools will meet in West Vancouver at St David's Church parking lot at the comer of Taylor Way and Highway 1 on fViday, Jimc 11, at 2:30 p.m., in order to make the four-hour drive and set up in time for Shabbat. The Shabbaton ends aroimd noon on Sunday.
