He recently participated in a grant from the Hastings Institute in New York — the prototype for medical ethics in the U.S.
Dodek, an assistant profess sor of medicine at UBC, is assistant director of the intensive care unit at St. Paul's, the first hospital in B.C. to participate in research, treatment and management of AIDS. "His knowledge of a wide range of issues relating to day-to-day management of AIDS patients will add a special dimension to the discussion," said Judy Zack, a member of the steering committee coordinating the program.
Rabbi Bassous will return to the panel to provide a Halachic perspective of medical ethics.
The committee organizing the event is chaired by Dr. Bluma Tischler, clinical professor of pediatrics. She told The Bulletin that "there are members of our Jewish community who are affected by AIDS. "Let Your Spirits Soar" was the theme at Chabad House this month during an indoor Lag B*Omer picnic, sponsored by Chabad-Lubavitch and Beth Hamidrash.
Spirits of the more than 100 members of Vancouver's Jewish community who attended weren't dampened by the change of venule from Stanley Park, necessitated by a sudden rainfall! Games, music and a holiday talk were featured during the^ free-ad-
mission event for Lag B'Omer, which coincided with Mother's Day this year. Refreshments included hot dogs, soft drinks, salads, desserts and cotton candy.
A highlight of the afternoon party was a video of this year's Lag B'Omer activities in New York, broadcast earlier in the day by satellite. Children's activities were brj
