Legion lauded for condemning spread of Holocaust-denial lit
The chairman of the Joint Community Relations Committee of Canadian Jewish Congress (Pacific Region) has commended the Royal Canadian Legion for passing a resolution condemning the publication and spreading of Holocaust-denial literature.
Dan Shmilovitch said in a statement that he "praises the veterans, many of whom helped to liberate the Nazi concentration camps, for taking this strong stand."
The motion was passed unanimously by 4,000 Legion delegates, representing 700,000 members, to the national 33rd Dominion Convention, held June 10 to 14 in Vancouver.
The resolution called on the Legion's president and officers to publicly condemn individuals in Canada who **are spreading Nazi and fascist propaganda, debunking the Holocaust, and generally trying to rewrite history and the facts of World War II, and . .. _who are praising Hitler and other war criminals." Also urged was the immediate deportation of any non-Canadian involved with spreading "subversive, Nazi or fascist propaganda."
"It is imperative that those who saw with their own eyes the horrors of Nazism raise, their voices in the fight against historical revisionism," Shmilovitch commented.
