demands an end to Jonathan's ordeal, he will continue to rot in Marion. I know from impeccable sources that leading Israeli officials including the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Defense Minister and Finance Minister have never once mentioned Jonathan's name in the White .^House. ,
I am one with the Israeli government; I have never criticized Israel from the exile. But the conduct of these Israeli officials is unacceptable. The Israeli Cabinet has no right to take advantage of the idealism and commitment of an American Jew and then dispose of him like so much garbage. It is up to every concerned Israeli to make this point clear to the Israeli Cabinet.
As Jonathan Pollard's rabbi, I see him every two inonths. The last visit was on Chanuka, the Festival of Lights. In the basement of the N^arion Penitentiary considered the "^belly of the beast" among prisons, I once again, shared for a brief moment Jonathan's solitary Confinement. As Jonathan and I kindliMi the Menorah, we offered a prayer that its lights penetrate the wall of fear that siirrbunds Ainerican Jews, a waU that seeins^a^ impenetrable as the wails of Maribii pri-■ soU. r.'
^ Jonathan Pollard has served time. He is now a political prisoner. Any fiirther time served b as a result of improprieties and prejudices on the part of persons in high judicial and govermneht positions. These persons were able to effect those improprieties and act out those pRJudices in large measure because Jews were frightened and remained sileiit.
It is time f'or Jews and oth-r ers of good will to shed their fear to save this splitary hunian being immured in the depths of his solitary cell.
It is time to demand free-doin for Jonattmn Pollard.

O VERTIGO DANCES CHAGALL
In 1989 when the^ontreal Museum of Fine Arts mounted a bigChagallexhibi-tion, Ginette Laurin's O Vertigo Danse was commissioned to create a dance piece based on Chagall's work. The result will be seen for the first time in Vancouver this weekend.
The work is not a narrative, Laurin explains, "it is about atmosphere." It uses a lot of imagery in order to capture the sense of lovers who are suspended between^earth and sky. In a painting, thcchoreo-grapher asserts, one can present people floating in the air. On stage, however; it is hot that eafsy. But she tried to conie up with a work in which someone is always in suspension, capturing that beautiful innocence of Chagall's characters.
The costunies for Chagall are all based on the artisfs own paintings, but Laiirin is on the whole interpreting his art in a different medium, trying to show physical images through working with very little narrative aspects.
The four couples who dance Chag^lLtry to express moods of. innocent passion and teiid|erness which arefea-tured in the artist's wdrk and which Laurin has now reia-terpreted - for her own company. The delicate and gentle work will be performed together with the very passionate Don Quichotte when O Vertigo Danse comes to Vancouver Playhouse (Feb. 1, 2). It is a presentation of the Discover Dance series organized by the Dance Centre.

Avraham Mor, Dafna Armoni) had minor roles. Special mention must be given to Sasson Oabai in a nice cameo as a good natiiredLmer-chant, and even liiore so to Jonathaii Cherchi as one of the doctor's fanatical brothers.
The film itself has already angered the United Muslims of America, but is a rather disappointing affair. It is unfocused, badly directed and even Field has known more exciting performances. Even as a sweeping teaijerking melodraina,\tbb movie fails.

The press kit, by the way, forgot — intentionally I presume — to mention that the movie was shot for three-and-a-half months in Israel. But the credits revealed it. Aside from the leading international cast, like Sally Field in the lead and Sheila Ros-enthal, 6, as her daughter, renowned Israeli actors (Yossi Shiloach, Vacov Banai,
