Our Babas and Zaidas: they are wonders. Who could relate to the stories of their age if they were not here to tell the tales? They put the flesh onto history — they are the living chroniclers of the past.
They took gambles and made sacrifices so that we could be where we are today. And then they spoil us. Shovel food onto our plates and forbid we don*t eat something: ^What! You don*t Hke my food? You ate before you came?** Or when your plate is empty because, like a good boy or girl, you ate everything: "Yoii didn't eat anything!** Thank G-d for indigestible chicken bones.
They teach us diplomatic skills when they ask, "Whose cooking is better, mine or the other Baba?** Whoa. Better

will (not may) grow old, perhaps become ill, and face the end of our lives.
But our Babas and Zaidas represent something else as well. Whether they came from the old country or were born on Canadian soil, they are our link with the past. They connect us to Jewish life of a time ago and of a place not known to lis — only through them. They provide us dow-through which we can catch a glimpse of **the old country** or journey to the time known as **back in the old days.** Together, we represent the continuity of Jewish history.
We should take advantage of their expertise and experience to educate ourselves. They surely have a lot of

But then, like many things in life, we often take for granted those who are closest to us, whether they be friend, sibling, spouse, parent or grandparent. One day that link connecting us to the past will be severed and the opportunity that we had will be lost forever. We must take advantage of the opportunities that we have in life and appreciate our greatest treasures while we can.

B.T. high school stages hit Israeli musical
Now in its fifth season, the Beth Tikvah Hebrew High School players will once again be presenting their annual Chaniika musical.
This year's offering will be the hit Israeli musical Kazab-Ian and the cast is currently knee-deep in rehearsals.
"Although the group is riding high oh _preyiOus successes,** explained Joan Free-ihan Cohen, the show's director, "it is still necessary to emphasize that each production is different and presents its own challenges. Hard work and commitment is the name of the game!"
Cohen also emphasized that a high-quality performance is not the only goal of this undertaking.
"The process is equally as important as the prodiict,** she explained. "The rehearsal period teaches responsibility to the group, commitment and, most of all, it is a positive Jewish educational experience."
Each year for the past five years, Beth Tikvah's post Bar-Bat Mitzvah students between Grades 8 and 12^ave the. opportunity to become involved in an intense, quick-paced, goal-oriented project.
Not only has each production (which include the (/ao/i of Sambatyn, Gpfdq, Peter Panitz and Joseph and His
