Olini: life is satisfkctpry
Forty percent of immi-grants from' the former Soviet Union say they are "satisfied" with life in Israel, and about 90 percent intend to remiain in the country, a survey by the Dahaf Institute has found.
The survey was conducted among a scientific sampling of 800 olim, half of whom arrived in Israel in 1991 and half in 1992.
Most immigrants want to ' be part-of Israeli society. Satisfaction with life in Israel is related, in addition to objective factors, to the subjective sense of belonging to and accieptance by Israeli society.
The survey also found that 83 percent of working-age adultswho Came in 1991 and 75 percent of those who came in 1992 are employed.
The percentage of olim employed is inversely related to age: 91 percent of olim aged 20-24 are employed, as are 76 percent of those aged 55-64.

Naomi Krugeiva criminologist who recentlyimmi-grated from Toronto, exr pressed concern that Arafat cannot control militants among the Palestinians.
"Rabin signed the agreement with ah Arafat who no. longer represents a large chunk of the Palestinian people. Arafat seems unable or unwilling to take charge of the radical opponents of the peace process," she said.
Asked what steps need to be taken to ensure, the plan's success, Kruger shook her head and said, "I haven't a blue." After considering the question, she added, [ "I would ask Rabin to approach the talks with great caution. He's trying . too hard to please everybody, including Washington, but this might not be iii Israel's best interests." /■ ^

"I voted for Rabin, but' I'm havingsecdnd thoughts," admitted an elderly man strolling down Ben Yehuda Street. : ■ ■
■~ "'i was very excited about the peace process, but things aren't turning out the way I'd hoped. Rabin is giving jind giving, but what are the Palestinians giving in return?
"For me, the last straw was when the government released hundreds of prison-, ers. Instead of being grateful, the Palestinians went to the media and publicly demanded that Israel release ; all prisoners, even those who committed violence against Israelis," he said.
" If the go ve rn me n t wa nts the support of the people, it's got to slow down a bit and see what Arafat delivers^" the man advised.
Judith, a clerk at a book-
store, said she is "torn" between negative reaction to the recent increase in violence and the hope for peace.
"It's true that Yasser Aria-fat doesn't control the radical elements, but this fact should not stop the peace ■process," she said.
"On the one hand, we need to know what the agreement will mean for the Jewish settlers living in the Territories, What will happen, for examplcv if there is violence and the man on the scene is ah Arab policeman?" Judith asked.
"\yhile I don't think the settlers should be forced to move out of the Territories, perhaps the time has come for them to move on, in the name of peace," she said.
With a note of frustration, she said, "I don't know the answer. Do you?''
