day, Jan. 18 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
The UBC professor of international finance has recently argued that the continuing economic recession is the result of fundamental structural changes as well as reduced demand.
Levi, who is also a professor in UBCs faculty of commerce and business
administration, contends that although the worst is over, the pattern of economic adjustment is unlikely to change.
In his talk to the B&P, Levi will use anecdotes and examples from day-to-day experience to bring his ideas to a layperson's level.
Levi has written on a broad range of economic topics, including labor economics, macroeconomics, money and banking and regional economics.
He is author of several books, including Economics Deciphered: A Layman's Survival Guide, International Finance diVid Thinking Economically.
Levi has been a visiting professor at several prestigious institutions including London School of Economics, MIT and Hebrew U.
The B&P is a women's networking group under auspices of Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver. Meetings featuring speakers on a variety of topics are held about every six weeks.
The organization is open to any Jewish woman who considers herself a business or professional person and who makes an annual contribution to the CJA.

A group ot prominent members of the Jewish community, headed by Norman Franks, and referring to themselves as "Friends of Harry Kosit-sky", together with State of Israel Bonds, will host an evening honoring the longtime Bonds executive.
The event is slated to take place Sunday, Feb. 13, 7:30 p.m. at the Schara Tzedeck Synagogue's Work Auditorium.
Open to the community, a reception will celebrate Kositsky's 80th year, mark his 25 years with Israel Bonds, and pay tribute to "a lifetime of love and dedication to Israel and to his community."
Under the banner of "Hooray for Harry," festivities will feature a variety of hors-d'oeuvres, a wine bar and a dessert buffet.
The tribute program will include entertainment, to be highlighted by celebrated comedian Joey Russell.
Bonds executive director, Alex Kliner, described the reception as basically a Bonds event. But, at the same time, he emphasized that the purpose of the occasion is not necessarily to sell Bonds.
"We intend, simply and primarily, to devote the better part of the evening to entertainment and to expressing our esteem, respect

and appreciation to Harry Kositsky."
Kositsky was born in Montreal, as he notes, "on St. Urban Street," and as he jokingly pinpoints, "just across the way from Talmud Torah, and the Turkish Baths."
Kositsky attended that Talmud Torah, and after graduating, attended the Yeshiva for two years.
Spending several years in the wholesale jewelry business, Kositsky then turned his interest to his community, becoming executive director of the Shaare Zedeck Synagogue.

As a volunteer and lay leader, Kositsky was deeply involved in all phases of Jewish and non-Jewish communal activities in Montreal.
In 1968, the honoree joined the State of Israel Bonds organization. Appointed as Western regional director, which included Alberta and Manitoba, he and his family moved to Vancouver.
Immediately, the Kositsky
family became members of Beth Israel, where they remain today.
In 1984, Kositsky was honored by Beth Israel Men's Club as "Man of the Year".
For years, Harry Kositsky was renowned for his famous Sunday B.I. Men's Club breakfasts.
The honoree has also served on the executive of B'nai B'rith, Lion's Gate Lodge, and is a member of the Jewish War Veterans, Shalom Branch.
After recuperating from a heart attack, Kositsky was asked to stay on with the Bonds organization as a consultant, and later, as accounts executive.
"I've enjoyed all my years with State of Israel Bonds, and G-d willing, I hope to continue enjoying for many more," stated Kositsky energetically.
Tribute committee chair, Norman Franks, remarked that Kositsky's honor is long overdue.
"Harry's abiding commitment, both to Israel and his community, stands as an example for all of us, and the committee and 1 are privileged to share in this simcha for Harry."
