Visiting WIZO's wonders in Israel

Daniella Ciivon, a vice-president with the Vancouver Council of Hadassali-WlZO, was one ofnine representatives from Canada who were taken on a tour of Basel, Switzerland, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Zionist movement. They then met in Israel to view first hanci the hospitals, schools and daycare facilities that their organizations support, as well as to exchange ideas about issues of concern to their respective groups.
"Purl of the idea of bringing Jewish women fi-om all over the world is to enhance their Zionist connection," Ms. CJivon said. She added that being able to see Israeli projects that are supported by Hadassah-WIZO was a very important and inspiring part of the trip.
The young adult division of WIZO is made up of members 45 years old and younger. (□

Gala celebration
For a dynamic and thought-provoking evening, join the Vancouver Chapter of Ben-Gurion University in honoring two local members of the Jewish community. ComeUa and Peter Oberlander will be celebrated for their contribution to community institutions including being founding members of Temple Sholom and helping establish Jewish schools in Toronto as well as Vancouver.
Mr. Oberlander, who holds degrees in architecture and city planning, has been a consultant to the United Nations Commission on Human Settlements and was a special assistant to the UN secrettuy general for Habitat 11, which took place in Istanbul last year.
Mrs. Oberlander is one of Canada's most eminent landscape architects and has worked on projects worldwide.
Both. Mr. and Mrs. Oberlander have received the Order of Canada for tiheir work in architecture and landscape design.
Guest speaker for the evening is Rabbi Alexander Schindler, vice-president of the World Jewish Congress and president of the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture.
The reception for Mr. and Mrs. Oberleinder takes place Sept. 4, 7:30 p.m. at the Vancouver Public Library. For information call 736-5386. ■
