He was a member of the Overseas Press Club, the Foreign Press Association, the Jewish Academy of Sciences, Bnai Brith, and the Zionist Organization of America, says the New York Times. Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Jeanette Simon, a former social worker whom he married in 1920 in Germany, a son, Frank D. George who is an architect of Stamford, Conn.; a daughter, Mrs. Renee G. O'SuWivan, who is a book illusUator; and th)^e grandchildren. There was a private funeral service. A lawyer, prolific author of plays and biographies, a journalist who ranged the world and a leader of liberal German republican politics, he was one of the tens of thousands of German-Jewish professionals who contributed to the flowering of a liberal and humane German culture before Hitler, says the New York Herald^ Tribune. It was his mission, Dr. George wrote later, to preserve in America what remained of that tradition. Volumes were presented to the War Museum of the British armed forces and to Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Jewish Congress, who also addressed the dinner. Announcement was also made of the publication of a Bergen-Belsen youth magazine, which includes stories, poems, and essays by children born in the Belsen camp after its liberation. The magazine is edited by Menachem Z. Rosensaft, son of the president of the Belsen Associations.
