The degree work was put on with ^reat impressiveness by the degree team, Norman Brown, Myer Potter, Sam Hyman, Ben Rose, Barney Glazer, E. M. Goldsmith. Eugene Mahrer gave an excellent rendering of "Kol Nidre" on the 'cello. Which added to the beauty of the ritual. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the initiates were addressed by P. P. Jules Ablowitz, who presented each candidate with a Lodge emblem. The meeting on March 18th was addressed by W. J. Bingham, Chief of Police Department. We will give further particulars of this in our next week's issue. - Now that the A. Z. A. Chapter is properly functioning, the Lodge has started another activity in the formation of a Jewish Boy Scout Company. Bros. Potter and S. A. Goldston were appointed an organizing committee. Any Jewish lad of the age of 12 to 16 can join and the committee will be glad to give any information regarding this. For further information phone Highland 3219 L. The following future arrangements have been made: Tuesday, April 22nd, "A Father and Sons" night. Tuesday, -May 6th, "Another Initiation Ceremony." Information from Grand Lodges reports that Bro. R. E. Gutstadt, the Grand Secretary, has left for Honolulu, to open a new Lodge in that district. SOCIAL NEWS (Continued from page 3) Miss Anne Goodman, who has been visiting in the Southern States for the past three months, has now returned to Vancouver. COUNCIL SABBATH This is to announce that the Congregation Schora Tzedeck will hold their Regular Friday Night Services at the Community Centre on Friday, April 4th, at 8 o'clock. In connection with this Service the Vancouver Section Council of Jewish Women, will observe "Council Sabbath." A visiting speaker of note will deliver the sermon. Everyone is urged to attend. There will be a "No Host" Dinner the same evening at the Hotel Vancouver, at 6.30 p.m. Reservations to be made with Mrs. Max Grossman, A very delightful affair was the bridge given by the Council of Jewish Juniors, on Wednesday evening, March 5th, at the home of Miss Bertha Breger, West 15th Ave. The guests were received by Miss Breger, assisted by Miss Beatrice LTibin. Miss Bessie Davis and Miss Beatrice Porte were co-hostesses at a very charmingly - arranged miscellaneous shower on Tuesday evening, March 4th, honoring Miss Goldie Katz, whose marriage will take place this month. The Third Annual Chassidim Ball given by the Sholom Aleichem Folk Institute will be held on Saturday evening, March 22nd, at the Community Centre. This Ball has in the past proven to be a very enjoyable event, and is being looked forward to with keen anticipation. The regular meeting of the I.O.B.B. Ladies Auxiliary was held at the Community Centre, on Tuesday, March 4th, with Mrs. H. Nemetz presiding. Final arrangements were made for the Purim Dance, to be held on March 15th, at the Centre. Nine new members were initiated into the order. At the close of the meeting, tea was served and a social hour enjoyed. Honoring Miss Zelda Goodman, on the occasion of her sixteenth birthday. Miss Anne Goodman entertained on March 16th, at a delightful "Sweet Sixteen" Party. The guests present v^ere Ann Smerling, Fanny Pearl, Celia Freedman, Eileen Peters, Fanny Cook, Ena Paster, Sara Levi, Bobby Lubin, Billy Hirschberg, Jack Robin-stone, Sid Smerling, David Lesser, Sam Levi, Hymie Herzog and Myer Dexal. The rooms were prettily decorated in white, green and yellow, and made a charming background for the music, dancing, games and novelties of the evening. Jew To Sue Arab For Libel In Mufti Hoax Haifa.—Benjamin Moshieff intends suing Mohammed Abu Shem for libel, claiming that Shem informed the Mos= lem Supreme Council that Moshieff on -behalf of the .Zionist Organization had offered him $125,000 to arrange for the murder of the Grand Mufti, causing the government to investigate. This libel was the basis of the fake story printed in the Jamal El Arabia, for which that paper was temporarily suppressed, but the story nevertheless was circulated throughout the Moslem world. Shem is an official of the Arab National Club in Haifa. PURIM BALL The Annual Purim Ball, held under the auspices of the Samuel Lodge I.O.B.B. and their Ladies' Auxiliary, again proved that B'nai B'rith is always a big success. The Community Centre was crowded to full capacity on Saturday night, March 15th, when members and friends of I.O.B.B. spent the evening in dancing, bridge, and mah jong.
