^JTriflay, September 14, 1962 JEWISH WESTERN- BULLETIN Page 3 JEWmBOY Argentine police chief cites racism as minority m BUENOS AIRES — Despite disagreement from a youth leader of the Tacuara movement, the head of the Argentine Federal Police, Captain Enrique Horacio Green completely exonerated the Tacuara movement of anti-Semitism. Many newspapers and public personalities i n Argentina have aJso maintained that Tacuara leaders them selves their anti-Semit- Bulletin News Drgesf acknowledge ism. During a press interview, (Captain Green maintaind that anti-Semitic manifestations in Argentina have been "exaggerated" and exploited "by Communists who try to prove that there is racial persecution in this country." He said raciism exists in Argentina "on a very small scale" and is practiced only "by ' a small minority." He further declared that Eich-mann's execution in Israel caused reactions "among some people here, moved deeply by Ipurly nationalistic sentiments." Thfeir "pride" was hurt, he held, resulting "in a few anti-Semitic incidents" which he insisted Tac- \ uara had nothing to do with, may or not have participated." Meanwhile Alberto Ezcurra, leader of the youth section of the Tacuara movement has indicated his disagreement with the police chief's views that the movement is not anti-Semitic. He said that the Tacuara backs fully the anti-Jewish views expressed by Father Julio Meivi-elle, a Jesuit whom the Tacuara considers its spokesman on the Jewish question. The Argentine Jesuit priest has written a violently a n t i-Semitic book, "The Jew — A Mystery of History", published in 1959 and now in its third edition. While some Catholics consider Father Meiviellie merely a fanatic, a prominent Latin American Catholic educator — Father Mario Pinto, professor of the Catholic University of San Salvador, said: "He is hardly a fanatic. He has dedicated his life to phili-sophical studies and correctly reflects the Church's doctrinal position on the Jewish problem. What he says about the Jews in Argentina is only the application of a general thesis." Currently, too, the DAIA, Central body of Argentine Jewry, has begun a series of regional Jewish conferences to strengthen provincial Jewish I although "some of its ? members communities.. They commenced with a report on the perils of Nazi infiltration in South American countries. YOUNG. An honor student, vice-president of the Fallis Church High school student council, president of his class, and a member of the varsity baseball and wrestling teams, victim of the shooting was young Lewis M. Gold-fein. Aspiring to become a scientist, he was shot down at night outside his home as he set up a telescope to study the j stars. Son of a Metropolitan police officer who served on the District of Columbia force for 23 years, the accused, John C. Vinson, Jr., has been described as a highly intelligent youth, possessing an IQ of 165. Fascinated by Nazism he was turned down by Rockwell's party as being too young when he wished to join it. Detective M. Herbell told the Washington Star the boy "hated Jews", had been previously charged with painting a swastika on private property and. had; disseminated some American Nazi party literature. The tragedy coincided with the rejection last week by the Virginia State Corporation Commission of George Rockwell's bid for a charter for A.N.P., Inc., a revised title for his American Nazi party whose original charter had been revoked earlier this year because it included the newly banned use of "Nazi'* or "National Socialist." After all, the reasoning went, the Centre won't be open when the Charter Drive is on, it's midsummer, etc. The publication deadline of the "Bulletin" doesn't permit the final results of the Charter Drive to be known, but with six days still to go until the end of the Charter Drive on Sunday; September 16th, 158 families have dlreddy enrolled. At the enrollment pace of the past three weeks there Is a reasonable chance that 200 Charter mehnbers can be enrolled by the end of the Charter Period, exceeding the original goal by 33%%. _.
