Author Joe Rosenblatt and translator ^^eymour Levitan are throwing a book party on April 15 at Duthie's on 10th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. They will be launching their newest releases,, presenting reading from their own works and meeting with the public. Rosenblatt will read from T'oe/rr^o/Wv a selection of his own poems, and Escape From the Glue Factory, his memoirs of Toronto in the 40s. Rosenblatt, who is described as a "poet-artist*\ has illustrated the muhi-layered verse of Poetry Hotel with his own original whimsical line drawings. Seymour Levitan, a Vancouver school teacher, has translated a number of the works of Yiddish poet Rachel Korn, gathering them together under the title Paper Roses. Rachel Korn was born in Podliski, East Galicia, in 1898. She died in Montreal in L983 leaving behind a wealth of poetry, encapsulating her early village experiences as a member of a farming family, and the later wandering and homelessness forced on her in-her middle years. The books will be available at Duthies, Shalom Books ROSENBLATT and The Showcase of Canadian Jewish Writers. . Levitan will also take part in the Family Singalongand Storytelling on Sunday, April 13 at 2:30 p.m. JWB Staff Billed as the "largest peace ^ event in Canada's history" a local Peace Festival opens April 19, culminating in a walk for peace held during Hoi Hamo-ed Pesach.- According to Larry Barze-lai, Jewish Disarmament Committee chairman, the event will stress education and commitment to ending the nuclear arms race. Mayor Mike Harcourt will officially start the festival, also attended by Hiroshima Mayor Takeski Araki, himself an atomic bomb survivor. Araki will unveil a display of artifacts from the Hiroshima explosion, which will be shown throughout the nine-day festival in the Orpheum theatre lobby. Barzelai said a week full of concerts, plays, art displays, films and community events . have been planned for the Peace Festival. A three-day "Peace and Disarmament Symposium- is ^ slated for the Orpheum theatre. Featured speakers include:' economist Kenneth Galbrahh and Stephen Lewis, Canada's ambassador to the United Nations.
