Your
suggestions are
welcome
Pres. Bob Long
During my third year as your President, I hope to be able to make up for anything I have failed to accomplish so far. Perhaps you have some very strong views as to what should have been done. If so, I wish you would let me know. That's what this special monthly page is all about — more communication between members.
The Annual Meeting was great. It enabled lots of members to get to know one another better and in some instances provided an ideal opportunity to air one's views. But once a year is not enough. Maybe you thought of something the
day after, which could be of benefit to other members Are you going to wait all year before you offer your advice or suggestion? That's a waste of valuable time. Let us know today— drop a line to the office. We'll pass on your suggestion, on this page.
I cannot emphasize too strongly how seriously I take this job as your President and I can only make a success of it with your full support and cooperation. We have one of the most successful Credit Union operations in Canada — because we have a lot of satisfied members. We intend to keep it that way, with your help.

Man Hours and Mortgages
Have you ever considered the amount of time that is contributed by the Directors and Committee men in the operation of our organization? The Board usually meets twelve times each year. There are two or three subcommittees which meet several times each year and then of course, there is the Credit Committtee which meets at least fifty times a year! That is a lot of man-hours in any language.
These people are doing their best for your Credit Union . . . you can show your appreciation for their efforts by using all the services that are available to you through your Credit Union.

Someone close to you may also reap the benefits of your membership in the Credit Union. Recently, the daughter of one of our members wished to obtain a loan for the purchase of a house. She and her husband are both working and they assumed they would have no trouble. They went to the local bank with whom they

have always done business. They turned down their request for a mortgage on the grounds that the house was less than the regulation minimum of 1000 sq. ft — it is only 975 sq. ft! It stands on two acres of land and an independent appraiser indicated that there was more than enough security for amount of loan involved.
We were only too happy to make the loan. We have no short-sighted regulations to hamper the Credit Committee and the couple are now happily settled in their new home.
The young lady's father is a long standing member of our Credit Union — he has used its facilities for many years and this was just one of the added and very gratifying advantages of his membership.

Before you use that credit card, give a thought to borrowing the money from your Credit Union. The difference in cost would make an appreciable addition to your savings or maybe buy something else for the house. Next time you go "big" shopping arrange for your bills to be paid with a loan from your Credit Union — it will cost you less.
Naturally, many of our "quarter century club" members -have seen a lot of service in the Fishing Industry, but few equal or better the record of Shore Worker Albert Edward Goddard. Bert, as he is known to his friends, and his wife Dorothy, have been around Vancouver a long number of years.
He first began as a shoreworker in 1927 with the Gosse Packing Co. Sea Island Cannery and was variously employed by Edmunds and Walker, Pacific Coast Terminals, Fishermen's Co-op Association and Canadian Fishing until 1962 when he began to take things a little easier.
In 1946 he joined Gulf and Fraser Fishermens Credit Union, became a Director the same year and continued as such until 1952. During that time he also represented the C.U. Chapter for 2 years. We are sure Bert has left his mark on the Industry and on this Credit Union. We wish him continuing good health in his seventy-fifth year.
In the years he was active in the Industry, he was responsible for encouraging more people to join the Credit Union, than any other member.
