REPORT OF REVIEW PANEL RELEASED
The Mifflin Plan Review Panel brought down its long-awaited report, concluding that the uncertainty continues in the wake
of the Mifflin Plan and recommending adjustment programs, flexibility on licence
areas and a review of licence stacking provisions. The province is urging a vote on the future of stacking.
EI-FUNDED JOBS PROGRAM BEGUN
After weeks of negotiations, the UFAWU
was finally able to get a contract with Human Resource Development Canada to
launch El-funded jobs projects for fishermen and industry workers coastwide.
DFO RAPPED BY JUDGE OVER CONSULTATION
A federal court judge rapped DFO for its undemocratic method of consultation with fishermen as he brought down a ruling on a six-year old lawsuit over rules covering halibut quota allocations. The case is likely to have reverberations in all DFO consultations.
