An unnamed U.S. spokesman was quoted in the Globe and Mail insisting that the boundary is equidistant from both country's offshore islands.
The July 1 arrest of an American fishing south of the line "does not sit well," he said. "Frorn the U.S. perspective, it was a case of a U.S. citizen being arrested by Canadians in U.S. territorial waters.
"We know where the boundary is and it is not where the Canadians say it is. It is south of the A-B line."
The same article quotes an unnamed Canadian official saying that "our position remains firm. The A-B line as determined in 1903 is the international land and sea boundary.
"We do not consider it an opportune time" to discuss the matter.
Fulton believes it is impossible to negotiate the line without giving it up entirely. Once the possibility of compromise is raised, Canada will be pushed back.
Canadian fishermen will have to give the issue a national profile, he said.
