offered to put a building up on the grounds that would have facilities including union offices, shower baths, restaurant, and so forth. In return for this the companies asked that they should have the exclusive right to sell their gas and oil to the boats. The local decided to accept the best proposition and that was made by the Imperial Oil Company. HcweveT, the city council made it very definite that any building put on the property would automatically become the property of the city at the expiration of the lease.
As the Imperial Oil Company considered an expenditure of approximately $40,000, it was thought only fair that the term of the lease should be extended to ten years instead of five in order to give the company some guarantee that their investment would be a profitable one.
This is the reason that the lease was again taken to the city council to get their approval on this step. It now remains for the lease to be amended slightly and to be signed by the Mayor, and the building will go forward. It is felt that no further delays will be encountered as the council have already approved the ten-year lease.
At every meeting of the local that has been held, the committee

has made reports and received the instructions of the local and Alderman Wilson, who has worked continuously with the committees in the last number of years, being a representative of the people of Vancouver on the City Council, has at all times worked with the fishermen themselves and received Instructions from them.
Fishermen express their appreciation to the different organizations such as the Tourist Association and Ratepayers Associations, who have assisted them all the way through by petitioning the authorities on our behalf. It is felt that the Dock will be a great tourist attraction and also will alleviate the black-eye that the Creek constitutes at the present time. Those people who are interested in seeing False Creek being cleaned up feel that the dock is a step in the right direction as nothing is more picturesque than to see a few hundred fishing boats tied up at a dock.
As far as the fishermen themselves are concerned, this dock will mean protection of their property, adequate facilities for handling their fish, greater comforts for themselves by way of showers, etc., safe storage room for their gear and so on. The now ever present fear of having their boats cleaned out if they leave them will be overcome by the constant attendance of a watchman. A lot of the present difficulties the fishermen now face will be overcome.
It is hoped that in a- few days the whole thing will be signed, sealed and delivered and the present committee's work will then be done. The local will appoint a new committee to administer the affair and see that the interests of the local are protected, as the local will be responsible for the running of the floats and the top floor of the building.

The Vancouver local of the Women's Auxiliary to the P.C.F.U. had Mrs. Norton from the Housewives League as our guest speaker at our usual meeting March 19th. Mrs. Norton gave an interesting talk on the activities of the Housewives League and a brief report on what the consumer's research council were doing. An interesting debate followed, when the membership of the Auxiliary freely expressed their opinions. The sewing committee gave a fine report at this meeting and have lined up enough work to keep us busy for some time. There was no meeting of the W.P.F. last Friday, so our delegate had no report.
It is hoped there will be a larger attendance next meeting, April 2nd, a number of our membership being tied up with sickness.
All fishermen's wives, sisters and mothers welcome. Corner Carolina and Broadway.
Our sympathies to Mrs. Main, who is on the sick list, also Mrs. Dave McKay. Hope you will both be recovered soon.
To Mrs. D. March we also extend sympathies in her bereavement. We would like to extend a vote of thanks to Mrs. W. March, for her excellent fulfilling of tha duties of recording secretary, and regret that she finds herself unable to further render her services owing to family duties.

To Study War Measures Act
By MAMIE OJA
The Sunbury Women's Auxiliary held their meeting of March 21 at the home of Mrs. A. Poulton. A new member, Mrs. Annie Schuit, was present.
A resolution of protest concerning the attitude of the Government in the Pioneer Mines strike, was sent to Premier Pattullo, and a message of sympathy sent to the Pioneer Women's Auxiliary.
Mrs. T. Maunus gave a report on the C.L.D.L. meeting held In Vancouver on March 2, to which she was delegated, which was received with great interest. We have ordered a bundle of Labour Defenders, to be circulated by the members to our neighbors and friends. It was suggested that we secure a book of recent laws which affect Labor, and devote a short period at the end of each meeting to study and discussion. We also propose to read in detail the War Measures Act, so that we may be prepared for the new restrictions of our civil liberties which are sure to come, and act immdiately toward their repeal. We strongly urge other women's organizations to do the same, as it is only a strong, united voice that will make itself heard in these difficult times.
Mamie Oja was elected to attend the Sunday and Monday sessions of the Provincial Youth Congress in Vancouver, as an observer.
A short report was heard on the Credit Union meeting held at the Community Hall on March 19th.
Our local has recently purchased two new books for our library with money accumulating from fines from overdue books. It is our plan to secure more reading material for the education of the community in this way.
The next meeting will be held on April 9 at the home of Mrs. Schuit.
Visitors in Vancouver this week are Mrs. F. Halminen and Mrs. Cordell of Sointula. Mrs. Cordell ij attending the Teachers' Convention and Mrs. Halminen is in town to have her eyes treated. The Vancouver W.A. welcome our sisters from Sointula and hope that their stay will be a pleasant one. We also hope to have them present at our next Auxiliary meeting so all members should be sure to show up and give them a real welcome.

We have been informed that twins, a boy and a girl, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Erickson of Sointula on March 11th. It is with regret, however, that we learned that the wee boy died when scarcely a day old. It is believed both mother and daughter are doing well. Mrs. Erickson is in Alert Bay Hospital.
Four Credit Unions Apply For Charters
Mr. A. S. Mclntyre of the extension dept. of the St. Xavier University, Nova Scotia, who has been lecturing on co-operatives and credit unions, has recommended the application for four credit union Charters; one for the Prince Rupert Fishermens Co-operative Assn. at Prince Rupert, and three on the Queen Charlotte Islands, for Queen Charlotte City, Port Clements and Massett. In each district a temporary board of directors, a credit committee, and a nominating committee have been elected to go through the necessary preliminaries when applying for their charter.
On Mr. Mclntyre's tour, a number of new study groups have been started. It can be said that on the Queen Charlotte Islands the women have shown a keen interest towards the Co-operative enterprise. To them can be given the credit for the largest measure of the success that has so far been accomplished. They lay stress on the words "Co-operation for success."

cerned with biological research, not merchandising. It was explained by L H. C. Phillips, representing the Prince Rupert Trollers Cooperative Association, that what they were asking is that new methods of processing large red Spring Salmon should be investigated with a view to relieving the mild cure situation.
Suggestions were brought forward regarding the recovery of nitrogenous substances (Vitamin "G") from herring "stick water," which is at present a totally wasted by-product of the reduction plants; Jocperiments in maturing eggs taken from salmon delivered at fish canneries, with a view to propagating them articially for stocking the streams; and methods for the destruction of hair seals and sea lions.
