QCI RESIDENTS GIVE CAMP MANAGER ROYAL SENDOFF
By C. VALLEY One of the outstanding social events here on the Queen Charlotte Islands was a farewell party given to Mr. Lloyd Monk, manager of the South Bay camp Queen Charlotte Islands for the Canadian Fishing Company. People came from all parts of the '
islands to attend this affair and to show their appreciation for the many acts of kindness Mr. Monk has shown the people of this great North West. The gathering was held at the Queen Charlotte Island hostess house at Skidegate and splendid music was rendered by the Harmony Boys Orchestra of Skidegate Mission.
Before the closing of the affair an address was read to Mr. Monk by Mr. LaSett of Queen Charlotte. Everyone sang "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow," and ended by singing "Auld Lang Syne."
Lloyd Monk's many friends all wished him good luck and expressed the hope he would be again with his many friends on the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Among the guests at the gathering were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Christenson who are with the office staff of the Canadian Fishing Company.
ED STEVENS ON HERRING
Edmund Stevens of Skidegate has left by plane for Namu where he will be part of the crew of Capt. Jack Haan's herring seiner. It will be remembered that it was Edmund who started the United Fishermen's Union on the Queen Charlotte Islands and is still one of the leaders of this great organization.
STURGEON CAUGHT
Two sturgeon have been caught in Skidegate Inlet ' recently, in dogfish nets. Both fish were about three feet long. Their freedom
was brought to an end by Captain A. Jones and Edmund Stevens.
Fishing on the Queen Charlottes this season has been poor. Salmon fishing was a complete fail: ure. Some of the boys did very well dogfishing—and again, many hardly made expenses.
Ladner WA Holds Oct. Meet

The president reported on her final trip to Shaughnessy Hospital where a large amount of fruit was distributed. A vote of thanks was given the president for her work and . to those who donated fruit and the use of their cars. The next meeting will be held November 25 at the home of Mrs. M. Buble.

Carl says farewell to all his friends, and will probably be up to B.C. for a visit in a couple of years. He will resume his occupation as fisherman from one of the Pacific Coast American ports.

VALUABLE PAPERS NEED PROTECTION
The simplest way to protect your will, insurance policies, deeds, stocks or bonds and other valuable documents, is to leave them at the bank. Some branches still have Safe Deposit Boxes for this purpose. These can be rented for a few cents a month. If safe' deposit boxes are not available, the bank will keep your valuables in its own vault for you. The cost is very low. Enquire about this inexpensive protection.

KILDONAN, B.C.—A visit here recently by Mr. Alex Gordon brought out a large attendance at a special meeting held in the schoolhouse. Mr. Gordon urged that the union organization be strengthened and increased throughout the coming year. Wage scale proposals for 1947 were voted upon by each separate trade in the organization.
A "Hard Times" dance was held here Saturday, November 2.
A gay crowd attended and prizes for the best costumes went to Mrs. Graham and Mr. "Bill" O'Toole.
But the enjoyment of the evening was marred by a tragic accident in which the visiting troller "Paragon" suffered fairly heavy damage and one of the boat members, Mr. Bob Duncan is missing and believed drowned.
It seems the expected big year for chum salmon has not developed and the steady rain has practically eliminated seining in many places around the Barkley Sound area.
