Fete Jenewein Elected Maple Ridge Reeve
Pete Jenewein, second vice-president of the United Fishermen and Allied Workers Union, has been elected Reeve of Maple Ridge Municipality in the ballot which took place last Saturday.
Pete had held the post of Councillor in the district but this year decided to run for the top position of Reeve which he won by 1102 votes to 1074 for another former councillor.
He is president of the Albion Local of the Union, secretary of the Fraser River District Council, and a member of the advisory board of the International Pacific Salmon Commission.
Another UFAWU member, Russell Nustad, was elected to the school board in the Delta District. He is a member of the Annievillc Local of the Union.
Two other members of the Union did not fare so well though in both cases, they received encouraging votes. They are Elgin "Scotty" Neish, president of the Victoria Local who failed in his bid for the office of alderman in Victoria, and Leo Brady who missed out in the ward 5 councillor race in Surrey.
Congratulations to the winners and better luck in the future to the losers.

OPERATE THIS ENGINE YOURSELF
* * ★ LET ME DESCRIBE IT
(1) Not any larger than a gasoline engine.
(2) Smooth in operation — vibration-free.
(3) Starts in less time than a gasoline engine.
(4) Much easier to operate than a gasoline engine—it is just like a medium duty gasoline engine with all of the ignition parts and the carburetor removed.
(5) Dampness and water do not bother a Diesel Engine.
(6) 12 volt generator and starter.
(7) Finest Parsons reverse and reduction gears. Special mention: We believe these arc the only ones on any engine with all
HARDENED & GROUND GEARS
(If you try them with a file the teeth come off the file).
(8) These are 4 cycle, 4 cylinder marine diesel engines with DIRECT INJECTION. Other engines using DIRECT INJECTION are the Gardner and the National.
(9) Some competitive diesel engines use one third more fuel.
(10) If the price of diesel fuel was more than gasoline. Ford diesels would still save you money.
(11) Your present gasoline engine operation is costing from 2 to 3 times what Parsons' Ford Marine Diesel will cost you this year.
(12) Takes about one year to save the difference in purchase price.
(13) This diesel is made to drive your vessel or a tractor or a bulldozer 14 hours per day; it is built for hard work.
(14) Crankshaft and bearings are made to last a lifetime.
(15) If a farmer can operate a Ford Diesel—so can you!!
(16) Can be rebuilt in your own back yard.
(17) Parts available from Harry Walker Ltd., or any place in the world where the Ford Motor Co. sells tractors.
(18) This engine has the best features of another famous tractor and marine engine, but this engine is small enough for any gillnet boat.

A Personal Message—
HARRY WALKER SAYS:—
"I realize that the fishing industry is having very competitive conditions, so I am willing to meet these conditions. I will accept any deal that will let me live as well as a first class fisherman. Please don't get the idea that my engines, both gasoline and diesel, are of less quality because my prices are lower. The quality is the highest on the Pacific Coast, but my expenses are those of a first-class skilled fisherman or mechanic."
Cash prices for Parsons Ford Diesels range from $1650 to $1995 for fishermen. We give bonuses for all cash.
The above deals are for engines ordered before January 15. Don't expect to place an order on April 15 if you want a bargain.
Send your order by return mail.

ALBION
CALLING
Well, I'm with you again. Our Albion Women's Auxiliary had its last regular meeting at the home of Doris Cordoni on December 3 with 17 members present. Gosh, you could almost see the walls bulging but it's sure nice to know that our meetings have a good attendance record.
Naturally, at this time of year the main topic under discussion is our Annual Christmas Party. This time it will be held on December 18, 7:00 p.m4 at the Webster's Corner Finn Hall and if all the 70 children turn up (which we hope they do) you can just imagine the wonderful party we'll have. By the way, kiddies, we got a message from Santa at the North Pole saying that he has all his shopping done. And don't forget, parents, the more'bf you there, the merrier.
We had quite a discussion on compensation. Olga Lee gave a report on the meeting when over 50 delegates met with Lyle Wicks, Minister of Labor, to present their problems and views on the question of compensation. I gathered the Hon. Mr. Wicks was impressed by the fact that so many people were fighting for this compensation. We plan on a fund-raising campaign in time for when the House convenes in the New Year.
A few of our members have had the ill luck to be confined to hospital in the last while. Chris Pipo and Betty Back have been in and out. Betty's little girl Trudy is in the hospital now. Also Mary Ann Puska. Drop in and see them whenever you have the opportunity. Being in the hospital is hot what I'd call fun at any time.
We realized $3.30 on our regular raffle, Mary Ann being the lucky winner of a set of nice (and handy at this time of year) glasses.
Our next regular meeting will be held at the home of Shirley Cordoni on January 7. As this was our last one until after the New Year, I'll take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season and a very good New Year.
Until next month then, Merry Christmas. (I will not sign myself "A.A." like Cis Carlson and Olga Lee did in the last report).
