Santa Claus visits us at our next meeting so it would be nice to see a lot of members out. The meeting is December 20 at the home of Grace Stevens.—W.D.
be places where your ability could be applied in relation to your regular work. If you can handle fish you can look after meat or other perishable foods. Weighing can be an ability to mention — groceries, delicatessen. Factory line work can be applied to 'pop', vegetables, cookies or any-where a line is used.
The ability to make a good, clean job of a messy, smelly one is a real art — hospitals, cafes.
A place where speed is at a premium such as wrapping or filling, apply at chocolate houses, butter and margerine, deep freeze — in fact everything is wrapped these days. Notice in a window of a small store how many articles are wrapped. You can do it better than others because you are experienced. If you can't get an interview, write a letter — a good letter.
Your task in writing a letter is to somehow relate yourself to your prospective employer's interests. You have an ability which he can use . If in the opening lines of your letter you can make him conscious of it, he will then be pretty sure to read further. You see, the first hurdle you must leap is his disinclination to read your letter at all.
"Dear Sirs: I am 24 years old— have had a high school education," is no way to start a letter. Why? Simply because the man to whom you are writing is not interested. You may be 24 or 64, an illiterate or a Phi Beta Kappa; he cares for none of these matters during these first words of your "interview."
A good business letter states its purpose clearly, naturally, briefly, and courteously. A good letter asking for a job you would very much like to have could turn out to be extremely important in your life.
