BOWLING NOTES
Three Teams Tie for First
By ED PETERSON
Well, here we are with our long-awaited bowling news that everyone has been asking about, and from now on we hope to present it regularly every week in The Fisherman.
Team standings haven't changed much with Starfish, Shamrocks, and Seals heading the standings in a three-way tie for first place.
Sharks and Scallops are tied for second while Sockeyes, Smelts and Shrimps are on the bottom rungs but still not out of the race by any means.
The League is settling down to a more even pace now as the weeks pass.
Season's high singles are at a real high this year so we can expect records to be broken before the season is over. Dot Eck-man leads the women with a 281, Helen Kean comes next with 270 and stepping right on her heels is Helen Smith with a 269 game.
Bob West has set a good target with his 294 followed by John Campbell with 290 and Bob Moore with 289 is in third place.
We're all looking forward to seeing who it will be who goes over the 300 mark for the first time this season. If somebody doesn't do it within the next few weeks, I may take up the challenge myself and take on any bowler in a duel. All challenges will be accepted but warnings must be given or it won't count.
It may be of some interest to know that I have started a Sunday League commencing at 1:15 p.m. If the fishermen would like to start a league of their own, there is an opening for an eight-team league at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoons.
There are still lots of openings in the 1:15 league. Young people in the Union who have never bowled before are especially invited. Now is the time to get in
